panama city, fl or any beach town in the gulf of mexico area.
we stayed at "Origin At Seahaven" a couple weeks ago.
it's fairly new and very nice accommodation. it looks/feels like furnished condo than a hotel. they have everything in their rooms, microwave, fridge, silverware/cooking ware, etc. look it up at google or expedia.

Jekyll Island is nice. Not too many people and a more relaxed atmosphere then I ever got at the gulf shore beaches.
About an hour south of Savannah.
You have to pay per day to park on the Island, but it isn't too much. Just have cash ready...it is so relaxed you can't pay with a credit card.
Also this is the only beach in GA that allows dogs...(as far as I could find anyway). |

Three places:
1.) Watercolor (Santa Rosa Beach, FL) Fantastic little development with great pools. Whole community is bike/walk friendly. Very pretty beach. Minuses: Far away, occasional algae in water, $$$.
 
2.) Alys Beach, also on the Emerald Coast. Gotta see it to believe it. Advantages: Nothing else in the SE like save maybe for West Palm Beach. Disadvantages: $$$$$
3.)Harbor Island, SC or Hunting Island, SC. They are next to each other. Harbor island is private, Hunting Island is mostly a State Park. Probably my favorite beaches. Very wide, no algae, light crowds. (Not my pictures):
