| which router? Linksys WRT 110 or WRT 160N
Which one should I get? I think the difference is that the WRT 160N does MIMO, but not sure what other differences there are. The router will be used with 3 ethernet wired computers and 2 wireless laptops. Neither of the two wireless have Draft-N NIC's, but may be adding a third laptop in the future. The difference in cost is about $20, and assume it may be worth the extra just in case. Anybody have any other suggestions about which one to get? Range is also another potential issue.
Just looked around here and may also want to try DD-WRT or tomato with this purchase. Are these compatible with either of these? |

| The WRT110 appears to be a G router with MIMO; not actually a Wireless-N router.
For a quick comparison of the two: »en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linksys_WRT300N_series
DD-WRT appears to support the WRT160N. Tomato does not support any N routers yet.

| reply to WilliamDon DDWRT is compatible with the WRT 160N.
Range difference between the 110N and 160N will be minor, at best.
My only reason to recommend the 160N, is in terms of future wireless devices, if they are "N" wireless.
For a fairly modest cost difference, I would just go with the 160N...which btw, is exactly what I did. I have 2 home, and one work "G" based notebooks...so I could have saved a couple of bucks, but I figure somwhere shortly down the road, I will have "N" stuff, and the price difference just was not so great. -- ...something is happening here but you don't know what it is...do you, Mr. Jones? |
