What's Best In Removing XP Antivirus 2008 ?

Just started to evaluate this infected computer and noticed it has XP Antivirus 2008 installed.

I know this is a nasty piece of malware, but was wondering if it is easily removed with conventional methods, or if some better utility or method exists.

Thanks.

the "malwarebytes" program would probably remove it, but i have never tried using it, myself..

another program that might remove it is "superantispyware".. if SAS doesn't remove it, mention it in their forum and you will get further assistance with removing it..

here are the links for the two programs:

Thank you, Kayrac and redwolfe_98.

Superantispyware did completely remove the XP Antivirus 2008 malware.

I really appreciate your help with this.

Don't be so sure. Super missed some parts of it on a machine I did a couple of weeks ago. Spybot found some more active elements and Kasperky's removal tool found even more.

Thanks SipSizzurp.

I ran both Spybot S&D and HijackThis, both came up clean.

Thanks for the heads up.

The key here to keep in mind is that there is no such thing as a perfect tool; malware requires the use of multiple tools (IMHO) in order to ensure proper removal.
