@cgocable.net

Yak, Teksavvy, Acanac, Primus???

Greetings All

I am in the market for a new ISP. My current provider Cogeco, altho fast, has too many restriction and has now increased their rates making them just too expensive aswell. As for using Bell..........I rather send/read smoke signals to get my world wide information.

From what I have researched there are a few companies offering bundles including phone, long distance and ISP. Teksavvy seems to be very popular on this board, but does anyone have any information on some of the other providers out there.

Thank you in advance for any information.

Cheers

DSL is dependent on how far you are from the telco central offuce. Stoney Creek's CO is on Lake St. near King. If you're north of the QEW or above the escarpment, you may have difficulties. Punch in your phone # at:

to see if DSL is available.

I've been with Teksavvy since December, & been happy.

Drop me an IM.

According to Bell I can get the Total Intranet Performace which is their second best option for residential.

You should likely be good for 3-5M D/L.

My TS service is 200G cap for $30. I was worried at first about that, but after a few months, I realized I had a long way to go before I even came close.

They also have an unlimited plan (no cap) for $40.

Nice part: no contracts, unlike a lot of others.

Start comparing.

I am a very satisfied TekSavvy customer so that is who I would recommend.

You can find lost of comments on the other ISPs in your list on this forum.

AFAIK Yak just resells TekSavvy DSL.

Here are some reviews

»User reviews - PrimusDSL
»User reviews - Acanac

I have Teksavvy and I can recommend them. The reviews should give you more understanding of the companies.

Primus probably got the best package (voice/dsl/long distance), unlimited bandwidth, but their tech support really suck. If you KNOW you have stable DSL, then I would go with them, but dealing with tech support stills send shivers down my spine.....
I'm with them now, been for the pass 13 year (before dsl) voice and long distance are solid.
Did I say tech support sucks!

Yak resells/wholesales TekSavvy, and Primus isn't all that much better than Bell (although gotta give them props for supporting net neutrality). So of the four, you should probably look at TekSavvy and Acanac.

Don't get the primus service. It may look appealing but trust me, for the hassles, it is definitely not worth it.

Didn't know that. I wonder how Yak makes the numbers work on their $35 'unlimited' plan.

They're a TekSavvy wholesaler rather than a reseller. So they're buying bandwidth in bulk from TekSavvy and playing the numbers game, betting that the average consumption will be such that they can make a profit at $34.95 per month.

I could be wrong, though. I do believe that Rocky said that they worked with Yak on that.

He did but he was uncharacteristically vague about the details. See here.
