Well, one thing is for sure. (So far at least). I appear to be one of the few people around this place who actually like the asterisks.

| reply to B I LIKE the asterisk. That is VERY neat! Plus, it is extremely easy to click on it. I don't know why some, unless they have something like Parkinson's, find it hard to click on that. Well, I can see how newbies would find it hard but newbies have to practice mouse control anyhow and this would be good practice...I sure had to practice before I got my own computer years ago.
Perhaps, since some find it hard to click on, there could be BOTH asterisk and mouse hover. Many of us long ago disabled mouse hover here so I don't want to see asterisk gone and mouse hover in its place, but I would be fine with having BOTH and the user could choose and those who choose mouse hover could hide the asterisk and those of us who don't like mouse hover but do like the asterisk could use it. I really LIKE it. It's also very cluttering to the screen. It's also not very intuitive. An asterisk usually means there is a footnote. There isn't eone.
It's also unfortunate that people can't state that they like a change, without insulting those who don't like it for whatever reason. -- Any Soldier Don't judge a picture by its camera. My Gallery

No. This thread appeared at the top of the forum almost immediately after I submitted it; the thread was merely locked until it was approved for discussion. Other than that I have no idea what you're talking about, or why.

| reply to B 1) Asterisks are just cluttering web page, IMHO
2) Who needs to have links to user's info on post list page? I certainly don't.
3) If one needs the links so badly, remove asterisks and make user names as links. -- Keep it simple, it'll become complex by itself... |

An asterisk usually means there is a footnote. There isn't eone. It's also unfortunate that people can't state that they like a change, without insulting those who don't like it for whatever reason. I apologize if I offended you. That wasn't my intent. Its size is in proportion to the font size used so the asterisk I see and click on is just as small to me (since I have to use a larger font to be able to read) as what you see and click on. I'm afraid I don't understand your point. The asterisk would be too small to click on easily if I used a smaller font but I wouldn't be able to read the smaller font. If you can read a small font then you should be able to click on the smaller asterisk it seems to me.
It's not a link to the user's page. A link to the user's page cannot do the same thing! Plus, it acts exactly like a footnote would. It is very neat if you have a browser capable of displaying it properly. I still use Fx 1.5 on my host machine partly because that will take a fair amount time to upgrade and I still like the older version. On Fx 1.5, clicking on the asterisk sends me (like clicking on a link would) to the user's page. But clicking on the asterisk on Fx3 pops up a mini/thumbnail user page and I like that! How many times I have wanted to see a user's page but not wanted to have to go to the page and then come back. Now, I don't need to do that as long as I use Fx3 as the page pops up right where I am as a mini page. It's grabbable too so I can move it where I want it.
It's not as useful in IE8 as there is only a small amount of information shown in the popup. If you click on "more" then you get taken to the user's page so I can see where IE users might not think much of this but it is really neat on Fx3. I haven't tried it on Opera so I don't know how it is there.
EDIT: There is a small problem with the longer thumbnails like for fatness as, depending on where on the page his asterisk is (and also probably a problem just for those of us who have to use larger fonts), his minipage opens with the top cut off. I can't grab it to move it down on the screen. I had to refresh the page to get rid of it. But I still really like this feature. Perhaps, the ability to grab could be placed at the left (since "more" is on the right) bottom corner also? -- "The same ferocity that our founders devoted to protect the freedom and independence of the press is now appropriate for our defense of the freedom of the internet. 2 edits | reply to La Luna Yeah, I sort of agree about the right column.
If anything looks a little 'cluttered', it's the size of the right column. (Problem is, I already forgot what it looked like before the change). Did the size of the left "Forum Title" column change too? Aw, heck...I don't know.
I still have no problem with the asterisks though. -- I had a life once.....now I have a Computer and a Modem. |

Easy - No need for any of this additional info Medium - Click on the name Hard - Click on a superscript * Expert - Click on a 1x1 hidden pixel
Please consider the above a new feature request that should be added to the list. Obviously it needs to be a user selectable option. Maybe on April 1st this option can be one that is switched around between users for the day.
