I second GeekNJ's plan.
So far the "votes", with one or two significant exceptions, are overwhelmingly against the cluttery little stars.
But they're still there.
Foo.
I honestly don't understand the point -- why not just have the userid clickable as it used to be? What's to be gained by yet another character on the page, and the one standard ASCII character designed to be most distracting at that?

| reply to jabarnut said by jabarnut : Did the size of the left "Forum Title" column change too? Aw, heck...I don't know. The size didn't change. It got right justified. It had been left justified. Many in this thread feel it should go back to being left justified. I agree. The way it is now it makes it hard to read the topic column with the forum title column having no white space between the end of the forum title and the beginning of the title in the topic column. Besides, it looks messy the way it is now (at least I think so). Justin has said he is still working on it and so I'm waiting to see what he decides on. He did give us the last poster back and I really appreciate that and I realize it might not stay where it is now as this not a finished product as I understood him to say. But last poster will be there somewhere in the finished product and I am really happy about that. -- "The same ferocity that our founders devoted to protect the freedom and independence of the press is now appropriate for our defense of the freedom of the internet. | reply to B I suppose I should clarify a little. Regardless of my past posts in this thread, it's not really so much that I'm in love with asterisks, but rather the feature itself that I like.
Heck, it could be an envelope, a pyramid, a diamond...or even a banana or chocolate chip cookie, as far as I'm concerned.
I just think the drop down profile itself is pretty cool, and I hope that stays in one form or another.
Ok...no more comments from me. "Ha!"..."If only that were true", (exclaimed my BBR friends). -- I had a life once.....now I have a Computer and a Modem. |

| reply to B *Object* to making the name a link. If it's a link, you can't select it. I need to select it so I can Google it.
When it was a link, you had to click it and then the only plain text that you could Google was the tiny header line on the user's page. |

| reply to Johnny Uh, you know you can just click dead space to the left or right of any clickable link and easily select the text, right?
Here, I'll show you.
Johnny
I cut and pasted that from the otherwise clickable name beneath your avatar. If I wanted to Google it I would paste it into Google. What's the problem? (Not to mention, how often are people Googling DSLR userids of all things?)

You guys are rid of the 'dreaded' asterisks, and I've still got the drop down profile that I really like.

I'm not quite following that either. As shown in tmpchaos screenshot above, even if a User Name (or any other other word for that matter), is a link, you can still highlight it and right click for a search. -- I had a life once.....now I have a Computer and a Modem. |

Well, getting B's popup will always be a challenge. Clicking on a "B" isn't a lot easier than clicking on a "*".
