I would have thought the userid would be a standard underlined clickable link (which would address the Pro-Asterisk Insurgency's new counterobjections) but I'm not one to quibble.

When it was a link, you had to click it and then the only plain text that you could Google was the tiny header line on the user's page.

Easy - No need for any of this additional info
Medium - Click on the name
Hard - Click on a superscript *
Expert - Click on a 1x1 hidden pixel

Please consider the above a new feature request that should be added to the list. Obviously it needs to be a user selectable option. Maybe on April 1st this option can be one that is switched around between users for the day.

It's not necessary. A link to the user name could do the same thing. As for not being able to click on it, for those of us who have standard font sizes, it is small. It's also very cluttering to the screen. It's also not very intuitive. An asterisk usually means there is a footnote. There isn't eone.

It's also unfortunate that people can't state that they like a change, without insulting those who don't like it for whatever reason.

I like the idea of being able to look at the profile without having to go into the post, but the asterisk looks odd imho. As odd as it sounds, i find my eyes jumping to the asterisk at the end of the lines.

What about linking the names? or maybe using some fancy CSS to make the profile show up if you hover over the name?

I vote to DUMP the asterisks, and put the the format back the way it was; including the column for last poster (and, I don't mean that funky, crappy interim first/last poster format that was tried last night, but the original, tried and true version that existed for these past few years).
