Re: Throttled down to 5Kb/sec. Help!

The forced encryption could be your problem. Try setting it to enabled to see what the difference is. The problem when setting it to forced is that the client can then only download from other people who are using encryption, which generally is a small number in the swarm. But again it is dependent on the torrent and the number of seeds/peers. You made sure you have all your ports forwarded correctly right?

Hey Ninja,
I just printed »pervices.com/docs/throttling_tech_brief.pdf and will be trying this again tonight from home. I think I might have screwed up by using uTorrent's v 1.7.7 instead of their new beta. I'll try it again with the new beta one.

Also just to be sure, u mentioned that I should make sure to "forward all my ports correctly"... is that under the connections tab, the part that says "port used for incoming connections"? and that it should be set to 1723?

Yeps for sure the port forwarding makes a diff. Also as said if you have forced encryption on it only can connect to the few who also have it on in the swarm.

By port forwarding I mean that your router(if you have one) is setup to have open the ports that bit torrent needs to access the net.

By your question, it seems you're new to BT, so I'll give you the easiest solution. If you're not, don't take it personally, lol.
when you use BT, you need a port open (or a router that knows to automatically open/close ports as required "UPnP")
for people to talk to you.
*explanation of BT tech, skip if you already know*
BT works by saying "I'll give you this piece if you give me that piece."
With your port closed, you're sending the messages out, and the replies are coming back fine. The problem is the opposite - when another client offers YOU a piece, the door is shut and they can't get the msg to you, so its a one-sided process. (At least in terms of the whole system)
With the port open data flows freely both ways without requiring your client to initiate everything. Thus, it goes faster.
*end explanantion*

For easiest instructions on opening the port, go to
»portforward.com/english/routers/···ndex.htm
and find your router. That's an excellent site, it has step-by-step instructions for almost all models you can find today.

Thx a bunch recneps!
Ok so I've downloaded the latest beta version of uTorrent and Followed the instructions on PerVices' pdf. Currently the pc if plugged directly to the Speedtouch 516 modem... and I've been told taht it acts as firewall in addition to the infamous windows firewall.

Any who, so here are the results so far, I've just from 5kb/s to a whopping 24kb/s. Ok, ok, so it's not crazy but it's a whole lot better, any ideas how to improve on that ?

Also, have you guys heard any good or bad on www.torrentprivacy.com/ .... apparently some Russian company that encrypts everything in and out...

Ahhh... If Bell only knew he would be rolling in his grave.

now get a wrt54gl (»www.compu2000.com/product/491/WR···Linksys/ )
and Guspaz's tomato fireware »Tomato/MLPPP v2 beta 2 released for it and you'll have your bittorrent speeds back.
