 | Teksavvy Web Page As part of my personal crusade to migrate as many people away from Bell as I can, I have pointed countless people to the Teksavvy web site to check out their plans and prices.
Now I hope I won't need a 'flame retardant' suit to say this on the Teksavvy forum, .... but it has been noted to me that the web site is just a bit sparse. Unfortunately I have to agree. The basic information on pricing is all there, but not the kinds of user features that I've seen with other services.
It says there are 3 e-mail accounts and 5MB personal web space included, but I can't find anywhere that allows me to administer those features. It seems that you have to phone in even to just change your e-mail password ( something you should periodically do ). Sure, the folks on the phone are great and always friendly and helpful, but I still would rather enter my passwords into a secured web form.
With Teksavvy entering the big-time realm of TV advertising and national attention, wouldn't it be a great idea to provide users self-service administration of their accounts ? |

| I would imagine that's on the to-do list, since they've "finished" the new bandwidth tracker (just getting the bugs worked out now) Having an automated system would save many calls to the office and speed things up for the user (can be done when no one is at the office, like at 3am) |

I agree, Rocky has been on my case for a while to get something up and running.
We are in the middle of re-vamping our internal management system so I expect that in the next 3 to 6 months we will have these features available.
The primary cause for not already having something in place is security risks. I just haven't felt that things were secure enough to open anything up. -- TSI Marc - TekSavvy Solutions Inc. |

This was easily the largest upgrade we have ever done.
The bw-tracker is on hold while we wait for equipment to come in for our new SAN. Once that's up we can start putting the final pieces in place and really fix things once and for all. -- TSI Marc - TekSavvy Solutions Inc. |

It will definitely help convince people to dump the Beavers for Teksavvy. |

GuspazGuspazPremium,MVM join:2001-11-05 Montreal, QC kudos:16 | reply to TSI Marc Ooh, new SAN... Does this mean you'll now have the storage space to be able to do updates every 30 minutes rather than every 6 hours?
On another note, will the new accounting system allow custom discounts, so that unlimited users can now join groups? I was told that the reason my friend (Unlimited) couldn't join my group (5 premium, I believe) was that there was no way to have a $1 group discount in the old accounting system.
So instead, I get a $1 referral from him, and theoretically give that back to him each month. |

TSI MarcPremium,VIP join:2006-06-23 Chatham, ON kudos:3 | The new SAN has 26 drives in it.. so it does have lots of capacity. We will have to see how it plays out.
I haven't had a look at accounting for referrals yet. It will be looked at but it's low on the list right now. It's for sure possible to do just about anything with the new setup. It's a matter of time and resources. -- TSI Marc - TekSavvy Solutions Inc. |

I gave a throw-away PW when placing my order. Naturally I'm not giving my PW to somebody, no matter their position, it's supposed to be *private*. I'd get on this aspect, if true, right away. Basically anybody could read your mail. I know support can see my PW now, but I thought that was only because it was temporary until I get to change it myself... |

I believe the employees of Teksavvy are trustworthy but it still feels strange to speak the magic words you hold so private.
When I first joined Teksavvy, some of my e-mails were being read by someone else and I wasn't getting them all. It was just a matter of which one of us got to fetch them first. I only found out after my wacky cousin got a 'nasty-gram' from the other party for sending all those lewd cartoons he likes to send. At about this time, I started getting e-mails in Russian that I thought was some kind of misguided spam - since I don't speak Russian. A co-worker translated them for me; it was just the normal family 'how are you' type of stuff.
Teksavvy never explained to my satisfaction how exactly this could have happened, but changing my password seemed to do the trick. I still got Russian e-mail for a while, but I would send several test emails from work to my Teksavvy account throughout the day, and they would all be there when I got home and signed-in.

It's one thing that this is the way it is currently done, but it's another thing that the website makes no mention of it. |

1 edit | It's not that I'm sending deeply private email I don't want anybody to see. It's that the major point of a PW is ruined if it's "public". It probably wouldn't matter much, I'm sure the tech people could get at the emails regardless, but at least let's *pretend* it's somewhat private, or what passes for privacy these days, and not make it too easy.
And it's not a matter of trust, they do have my CC and/or banking info anyway.
What it is is something I've never heard of before, working in computers for 35+ years... I'll get over it, just very surprised. |

My ISP e-mail is not my only e-mail account; but since it is included in the package, why not use it?
For years I had a registered domain and used my own name@mydomain.com to redirect to whatever my current ISP POP email was. That worked just fine. |

GuspazGuspazPremium,MVM join:2001-11-05 Montreal, QC kudos:16 | I redirect my teksavvy address (as well as my various other addresses) to my GMail account.
With my GMail account, I can access it from anywhere via the web, and at home via POP3/IMAP/SMTP if I really want to.
No matter what ISP I use, if I change (as I have in the past), my GMail address will remain constant.
For my TekSavvy account, GMail actually logs in via POP3 to pull it down. For my other accounts, they themselves are set to forward to GMail on the respective mail servers. |

 | reply to tertech While TS is at it, please consider updating the web tools page. For us Mac users System 9 (Classic) is a distant memory and we can't even open the Mac Access Manger that you provide, nor would we even need/want to. |

I'm hoping that this isn't why I've been receiving so much Russian crap the past few months. Generally my email filters will pick most of it out as spam.
When I initally signed up, I thought I would be able to change my PW myself, also. I put a lot of trust and faith in TSI, but I think the current system is only asking for trouble. |
