Re: DGL-4500 NEW Firmware 1.10 Released

Firmware 1.12 is also now up on the DGL4500 main page »support.dlink.com/products/view.···GL-4500#
Looks like you can now downgrade to previous firmware builds, but for some reason not 1.02 hmm...

¤ Fixed upgrade FW, lose mac address and prevent downgrade to 1.11, 1.10 and 1.03.
¤ Follow Wi-Fi Cerits. N only has HT40 mode.
¤ MAC Address Filtering Fix.
¤ Wireless Schedule ADD tab change to "Add Schedule"

DON'T UPGRADE TO THE 1.12 FIRMWARE!!!

DON'T UPGRADE TO THE 1.12 FIRMWARE!!!

I upgraded to 1.12 from 1.11 Beta. I saved my very intricate configuration before upgrading to 1.12. The upgrade went fine and wiped out my config. No problem, it warned me prior to the upgrade and I have my backup to go back to. I even have a couple copies of it. Well guess what, the configuration load FAILED!!!

Restore Invalid
The restored configuration file is not correct. You may have restored a file that is not intended for this device,
or the restored file may be corrupted.
Try the restore again with valid restore configuration file.
Please press the button below to continue configuring the router.

So I try to reload the 1.11 Beta firmware. It FAILED TOO!!!

Upload Failed
The uploaded firmware file may not be correct. You may have uploaded a file that is not intended for this device, or the uploaded file may be corrupted.
If the uploaded file is correct, it is possible that the device may be too busy to properly receive it right now.
In this case, please try the upload again. It is also possible that you are logged in as a 'user' instead of an
'admin' - only administrators can upload new firmware.
The Gateway will not be reprogrammed.

Needless to say, I got what I deserved. I thought they had actually fixed the issues since 1.11 Beta worked well for me. Not I can't even go back to what I had working without a lot of tweaking from a default configuration.

I'm about to throw my 4500 and every other D-Link product out the door and go back to my Linksys.

Re: DGL-4500 NEW Firmware 1.10 Released

The 1.12 update worked fine for me, but I still have the same issue, my gaming config does not work, every time I save the gaming settings for my xbox Live IP address, it never connects online.

Looks like I'm going to wait for ANOTHER patched firmware. These guys are out of control.

I finally one some of my older configurations to load into the 1.12 firmware. I used Internet Explorer instead of Firefox, but I don't think that was the issue. I had made several "tweaks" to the configuration over the past few weeks that were not in the older configuration that loaded, most notably was the 63-character Pre-Shared key. Perhaps it was too long to fit in the configuration file and therefore could not be reloaded. I don't know, but most people would not run into this issue because they don't use long random keys. If you want to give it a try, Steve Gibson has a password generator here: »https://www.grc.com/passwords.htm

Other "tweaks" that were not in the configuration file that loaded properly:
1. primary and secondary DNS servers set to the OpenDNS servers
2. an application rule for BitTorrent
3. connection type set to Cable or Other Broadband instead of Auto-detect
4. us.pool.ntp.org set as the time server
5. email settings configured to send logs to me
6. a "daily" schedule from 12:01 am to 12:10 am on Sun, Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri, & Sat

I don't know what prevented the configuration from loading, but I'm glad I've got it running for now. Perhaps D-Link will look into this more.

Has any one else been experiencing sporadic behavior from this device? I bought it because of the Gamefuel feature however UPnP works only sporadically and I have to reboot the stupid thing to get the uPnP to start working again. On the other hand my Linksys RV016 never had this many issues with uPnP. Anyone else here having issues?

Update to v1.15 if you had port forwarding problems like I did with v1.13.

v1.13 would randomly not recognise forwarded ports and therefore would not allow me to connect to servers for online gaming. So far v1.15 has fixed this issue for me.

one quick Question...

if it comes with 1.02 firmware...

will I stay with it or update to the latest 1.15 firmware? due to the issues recently?

Hey abiosis.
I too want to replace my old Linksys WRT54G router.
I been looking into the DIR-655, but I read the DIR-855 is the way to go but is way too expensive, so I found the DGL-4500 for $150.
Hopefully it goes smooth for me too.

So it seems everyone here runs the stock firmware not custom ?
On my Linksys I run tomato which is great, but I know tomato only works for very few modems.

It sounds like to me that there are a lot of people wishing that they hadn't upgraded - if you have the good ol' version stick to it, till everyone sorts this out properly especially when you can't downgrade ..
----
Does anyone know why they didn't allow it to be downgraded? I saw in the Dlink forum the engineers are saying not to bitch about the fact that it can't be downgraded, but I haven't worked out WHY they set it so that it cant be downgraded.

Also keen to hear why the modem is saying to upgrade to a new numbering system of firmware?
-------
For the rest of this thread, the version 1.15 feedback is up on the Dlink forum, and the latest I had heard was this issue with 1.15 and a bunch of others mirrored this symptom:

"I have been having this problem where I can't save anything on my DGL-4500 (the router reboots upon hitting save). I am using firmware 1.15 (non-beta from the website).

After much soul searching, I found an article that suggested enabling wireless to solve the problem (this was a different router a DIR655 I think) (of course this takes a hard reset of the router, since I can't save any settings after turning off wireless).

Nevertheless, there appears to be a problem with 1.15 on the DGL-4500, after wireless is shut off, no new settings can be saved. Might be worth looking into for the firmware writers."

»forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=2107.0

I am quite curious to hear - in my NZ experience I have found the Dlink 502T and all the common ones sold here to be have heaps of problems, and be really slow and pretty poor modems overall - but this forum seemed quite supportive of them, is the 4500 (these firmware bugs aside) pretty good?

Cheers,
ADSL Geek.

I had the same problem with the inability to save the settings once I turned of the WLAN.

I tried numerous things including firmware reflashes, and unplugging for a hard reset, and finally found that a HARD RESET with the RESET BUTTON did the trick. It did not work when I unplugged it.

Be sure to save your config file to local hard drive (tools-system), and then do a hard reset with the RESET BUTTON, and reload your settings.

I was then able to at least turn the wifi back on.

I hope this helps some folks with issues, and I wish you all the best of luck.
