Mele20Premium join:2001-06-05 Hilo, HI kudos:4 | It's just the one resort area...Multimillionaires have homes there (Michael Dell has a home in the area although I don't think it is at the resort) and there are rental vacation homes there also. Oceanic evidently has an exclusive agreement with their Homeowners Association to provide phone service, cable TV and Roadrunner and probably landline phone and satellite TV will not be allowed there. So, it is a sweet deal for Oceanic and they will probably charge a hefty fee which those folks won't bat an eye at but most folks on the island would find prohibitive price wise. Probably Oceanic is doing similar deals at very fancy resorts on Maui and Kauai also. Ordinary folks on the Big Island will have to settle for getting RR turbo plus offered sometime this year on this island. I was told the work to enable offering it in Hilo is scheduled within the next six weeks to two months. -- "The same ferocity that our founders devoted to protect the freedom and independence of the press is now appropriate for our defense of the freedom of the internet. | reply to Mele20 Fiber to home??? Where else in the states does TWC do that??? any1 know if they do it in California?? |
|
 | I didn't see any prices; it could well be that the monthly bill for fiber-to-home will be enough to temper your desire for this service. I have read that Comcast is charging something like $150/month for 50 Mbps download (can't recall the upload speed) in their initial DOCSIS 3.0 deployment. |
|
 | Wasn't there a discussion around here before about how they try to say the same exact thing as Verizon? Offering "fiber" to the home, when in fact, it's still coax, but the average joe blow, doesn't know the difference..?
If it is indeed true, that sounds awesome for the islands. 100Mbps upstream and down. That's pretty sick. But, I wonder if it's really for like HOA's, that split connections into condos or something.
And Mario, calm down buddy. We know you want a speed increase, but you just gotta wait! |

My friend who sent this to me said he called the person listed in the PDF document and it is true that homes at this Kona resort will be getting 100mbps/100mbps. He said that supposedly other areas of this island will get it also but I wonder about that. I can see other expensive resorts on the Kona side getting it but average homes/condos/apartments on the island - I doubt it. -- "The same ferocity that our founders devoted to protect the freedom and independence of the press is now appropriate for our defense of the freedom of the internet. So they have the capability to do this everywhere now, they just don't see a need for it. |

Square footage is listed and there are several views shown. A prospective buyer would have to make contact with the resort. Correction, the prospective buyer would have to contact the seller, whether the developer or a third party (as in the case of existing homes). They are all very beautiful, and very luxurious. |
