| [ps3] PS3 recharge cord question
I'm a new PS3 owner and found that the cable that comes in the PS3 to recharge the controller is woefully short vs the 360 recharge cord I have.
The cable here: »www.gamestop.com/Catalog/Product···id=64031 is longer, but would it work as well as the one I got with my PS3?
I'm planning on trading the cord I have now in and buying two of the Nyko cords If they work as well as the one I have now.
Anyone who has these, what are your thoughts? |

| reply to Jaime said by Jaime :I just hook it up to my computer and let it recharge that way. Are you using the cords while playing? No, just while charging up the controller. It's still my first day, ya know? And I do that with my 360 controller when it needs charging. |

That's one of my goals too, but what would you do if you wanted to play, but needed to recharge? You can't really sit back and enjoy yourself, right? |

| reply to Chris 313 I use a USB A-A extension cable to charge if I'm playing, otherwise plugged into my desktop. That cable would work as well, I'd suggest buying from Monoprice. Their stuff is top-notch, and shipping is fast/cheap. -- Interested in open source engine management for your Subaru? |

| reply to Chris 313 The cable for the PS3 controllers is just a plain USB to USB Mini cable. Nothing special. Any USB to USB mini cable will work fine. -- Join the BBR MLB 2K7 League The internet is a series of tubes.. |

| reply to Chris 313 As has already been said, it is a standard USB to mini-USB cable. Amazon sells a 10' version if you like, they work great. However, you could bring your controller to any Radio Shack, Best Buy, Circuit City, Game Stop, Target, Wal-Mart or whatever and get a longer USB cable for it. Just make certain the cable they sold you fits your controller in your car before driving away (it saves gas).
The Amazon.com cable is 10' long costs $9.99 and ships free usually without sales tax to most U.S. states for orders over $25. It is at - »www.amazon.com/Nyko-83000-PlaySt···3&sr=8-1 -- "People demand freedom of speech as a compensation for the freedom of thought which they seldom use." |

| The nyko cable is over priced. Get it from monocable. They have a 10FT one for $1.82, $4.13 with shipping included. »www.monoprice.com/products/produ···format=2 -- Join the BBR MLB 2K7 League The internet is a series of tubes.. |

| reply to Chris 313 I posted about this a long while back and since then, I've picked up a cheap docking station for the controllers. Strange thing is that the cable looks just any other USB to USB mini cable like everyone mentions, but I was never able to get it to charge directly to the outlet. I would plug in my Blackberry charger or an mp3 USB charger and it would never charge the controller. I know it's pretty standard because I can charge other USB things on those lines, but the controller never wanted to charge. I never tried just connecting it to my desktop, though. |

Sure, that sounds good, but what happens if you have company and both controllers are going out and you wanna keep playing?
I'll check out both, but I think I'll try the cables first.
Thanks for the suggestion, though. |

| reply to Chris 313 i switch out controllers about once a week(10 hours game play) and have never had one actually tell me it was low over that amount of time. unless you and your friend want do some marathon playing i dont think it will be an issue. the battery life seems to be pretty long. |

| My kids regularly run their PS3 controller batteries low then continue to play while they charge on 10' usb cords. I guess we all experience PS3 play differently. -- "People demand freedom of speech as a compensation for the freedom of thought which they seldom use." |

That is interesting because I thought *all* devices that can be charged via USB were all 5v standard. The SIXAXIS would be the first item that I've noticed did not follow that same standard. But that explains it. |

But that explains it. It's not just the SIXAXIS. My Motorola Q can charge with most USB power adapters. I can plug it to my PC and it will charge fine. I can plug it into my PS3 and it will charge fine. I use my uncle's Blackberry power cable to charge my Motorola Q and it wont work. The Motorola Q sees the USB cable as a charger and the charging icon pops up, but it won't take a charge. I unplug it and the battery level is the same as when I plugged it in or lower. -- Join the BBR MLB 2K7 League The internet is a series of tubes.. |
