adslgeek posted : It sounds like to me that there are a lot of people wishing that they hadn't upgraded - if you have the good ol' version stick to it, till everyone sorts this out properly especially when you can't downgrade ..
----
Does anyone know why they didn't allow it to be downgraded? I saw in the Dlink forum the engineers are saying not to bitch about the fact that it can't be downgraded, but I haven't worked out WHY they set it so that it cant be downgraded.

Also keen to hear why the modem is saying to upgrade to a new numbering system of firmware?
-------
For the rest of this thread, the version 1.15 feedback is up on the Dlink forum, and the latest I had heard was this issue with 1.15 and a bunch of others mirrored this symptom:

"I have been having this problem where I can't save anything on my DGL-4500 (the router reboots upon hitting save). I am using firmware 1.15 (non-beta from the website).

After much soul searching, I found an article that suggested enabling wireless to solve the problem (this was a different router a DIR655 I think) (of course this takes a hard reset of the router, since I can't save any settings after turning off wireless).

Nevertheless, there appears to be a problem with 1.15 on the DGL-4500, after wireless is shut off, no new settings can be saved. Might be worth looking into for the firmware writers."

»forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=2107.0

I am quite curious to hear - in my NZ experience I have found the Dlink 502T and all the common ones sold here to be have heaps of problems, and be really slow and pretty poor modems overall - but this forum seemed quite supportive of them, is the 4500 (these firmware bugs aside) pretty good?

Cheers,
ADSL Geek.
--
I have always maintained that a helpdesk should be there to help. I maintain this preposterous notion despite the commonly held belief they are there to blindly answer calls.

anon posted : I finally one some of my older configurations to load into the 1.12 firmware. I used Internet Explorer instead of Firefox, but I don't think that was the issue. I had made several "tweaks" to the configuration over the past few weeks that were not in the older configuration that loaded, most notably was the 63-character Pre-Shared key. Perhaps it was too long to fit in the configuration file and therefore could not be reloaded. I don't know, but most people would not run into this issue because they don't use long random keys. If you want to give it a try, Steve Gibson has a password generator here: »www.grc.com/passwords.htm

Other "tweaks" that were not in the configuration file that loaded properly:
1. primary and secondary DNS servers set to the OpenDNS servers
2. an application rule for BitTorrent
3. connection type set to Cable or Other Broadband instead of Auto-detect
4. us.pool.ntp.org set as the time server
5. email settings configured to send logs to me
6. a "daily" schedule from 12:01 am to 12:10 am on Sun, Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri, & Sat

I don't know what prevented the configuration from loading, but I'm glad I've got it running for now.
anon posted : dead ports and slow internet? ya i dont think that the firmware is the problem. I have been using the 1.10 firmware since it came out and aside from the mac address bug (which affects nothing else but having to look at a mac address composed of all numbers), is perfectly fine. Weak wireless signal and packet loss? Might try to reflash it, because this firmware just simply isnt the cause of all your ailments...
