We have labor laws THANKS TO UNIONS. Do you think these laws would exist had people not ORGANIZED AND DEMANDED BETTER? You are quite naive hott. The only reasons protections exist are workers got fed up with being fired for getting sick, being injured or killed on the job, etc. Hell, you should read Upton Sinclair's the Jungle. That'll make you realize just how lucky you are that unions exist. While I do think they have tended to get greedy, you'd better thank your lucky stars we have them. Otherwise, companies would be working you 7 days a week, paying little, and there'd be few worker protections. Someone had to force those changes, and that happened DUE TO UNIONS. |

| reply to hottboiinnc Your view is very limited If you dont think that unions raise the pay scale for everyone even the the non-union shops your crazy. Those stae and federal laws really work dont they how many illeagal aiens are employed by companys? That are skirting the laws already in place. You really think if the unions disapeared tommorow that there would not be many corporations clearing house and hiring people at lower wages just to fill their pockets more? The prices are not coming down live with it if the corporation has a lower wage cost that just means more profit to them.
Are some unions overreaching? yes they should be able to fire any employee for just cause union or not. The goverment unions being some of the worst offenders. I just feel your painting all unions with an awfully broad brush. Not all unions are as you describe...... |

1 edit | reply to sancraig There is not a place for a Union any longer in the US. We have labor laws for that.
The Unions do nothing but sit back and collect the money out of everyone's pay check and bitch and grip about how someone isnt getting $20 for putting a screw in something.
We have OSHA to make work environments safe, we have wage laws at both state and Fed Level. And if you can't get a job without a damn union well then you don't need to be employed.
And it goes for Telco employees too. Especially when most of the time you just see them driving around town and you see the same person several times within a few hours, or the ones that sit at McD's for a couple hours a time on a "lunch" break baking off the unions because he damn well knows ATT won't fire him they won't stand up to the unions.
I know when and how unions were formed. But THERE IS NO need for them now. We DO NOT have the problems people did before us in the coal mines.
That's why The Toledo Blade decided to lock the damn union employees out. And many still are locked out due to their stupid demands of a "i won't work without a 2cent more per hour raise!"
unions also make the price of items more costly. Go into a Union Grocery store and then into a non-union. By the same things 9 out of 10 times you'll spend more at the union store because of those people bitch and moan all the time about that extra 2cents. |
