They represent far fewer constituents than their federal counterparts. If they do something it is very visible since they represent far fewer people.

but have you noticed they have added more stop lights along 73rd? They are trying to slow down traffic. I used to take 73rd as alternative to Union Tpke. Now I take 75th ave.

He is the City council member for the area.

Right now, he is focused on the traffic issue on 73rd street. There have been a slew of accidents between 164th and Francis Lewis, including one fatality. DOT is considering removing a parking lane and increasing bike lane width and/or putting barriers so cars go slower.

You may want to call his office and relay your issue. He may approach DOT with studying the traffic patterns/issues in the vicinity including yours.

A lot of them, but not all, appear to be one car stopping for a red light at a large intersection and the car behind ends up slamming into them. Interestingly enough, this usually happens in the left lane only. Some might have been do to wet road conditions.

I am wondering - what can be done about it? A lot of pedestrians cross that street (including my family) and I would like to make it safer for them and everyone else.
