Re: $ 4 bb intrnet in fiber building, replace proposed cable mdm

In your case a T1 would be a step down since you don't care about the reliability or inclusion of SLA's. I personally would investigate staying with the cable modem given your price cap. There should be minimal installation charges and loop charges since the equipment terminates in the basement of the building. "Lit" buildings as they are usually called are the ideal place to be, or at worst next to them so they can just run a line underground to your building.

Given your choices of carrier you mentioned, I would investigate the Cablevision Lightpath service. They tend to be fairly cheap on price but big on bandwidth. I recall a few people here using them with no real complaints that I saw. Is Cablevision the same provider of your cable modem service by chance? If so they may even recommend you switch since there is fiber coming in from them, they may not have coax coming in.

If that list of providers is not the complete list, look and see if Cognet is on there. Cognet is the Walmart of bandwidth providers. They are the lowest price out there at something like $4 a meg (not sure what the minimum commit is though). Sure they have their shortcomings (just search this site and you'll see, there was even a news article on them posted not too long ago) but for someone coming from and happy with cable modem service, I think they would be the perfect fit for you.
