Re: New Logo

IMO, "Broadband Users' Community" sounds terrible IMO. I much prefer 'Broadband's User Community' as it makes the site sound more like THE place to come for broadband talk.

I agree it is clunky.

The best motto (at least to me) is "Know your ISP" which pretty much sums up the purpose of the site, unfortunately it is taken already by the australian broadband user community. But perhaps that isn't an issue. Different countries.

If anyone can think of a different but similar way of putting the idea: such as "Community ISP intelligence" or "Grok your ISP" then I'd be very interested.

Slogans aside, what do you think of Dreadwing's logo?

It is cool, But I think a logo change probably needs the services of a professional designer and perhaps split the logo from the name.
So some kind of broadband-style stylized image (that we can also use as a favicon), and then the site name.

A bit long but "ISP Intelligence for the Masses" ? though it sort of talks down with calling people masses.

"The Intelligent ISP Informer"
"Your ISP Unveiled"
"All ISP All the Time"
"The ISP Info Site"

Many years ago I wrote a book on basic electronics that the publisher titled as "Electronics Unravelled" and we then followed up with "Mathematics Unravelled." How about "Broadband Unravelled" as a slogan for you, with my compliments...

Current

drew's #2

Dreadwing's
Well, I just spent 5 minutes typing and had an error message from my stupid websensor, so I lost it ... and I haven't the patience to try again.

IMO combine these three for a logo ( drew See Profile's "attempt #2", Dread See Profile's "...something different", & the current logo).

I like the background on Dreadwing's, the text on drew's, and the shape of the current. I'll try something in a minute, but I'm going to have to admit right now that it'll look cheesy compared to what you guys have .

EDIT: Nevermind on my attempt, I can't make anything with shadows and whatnot on Paint and I'm not going to get to my laptop anytime soon. Perhaps when I get to my laptop I'll try .

That's more like it because DSLR is SO much more than a broadband info site.

Come for the broadband info and stay for the ....(fill in the blank)

The site encompasses info on broadband, ISPs, reviews but then there are all the other tech forums, hardware, software, brand specific stuff, gaming forums, not to mention the chats.

While DSLR is not a portal like Yahoo - God forbid - it is bigger than broadband for sure especially once you get past the front page and into the forums.

The name, in a way, limits that actuality, so the tag line really has to wrap it up and explain the "more" part.

Know Your Internet - sure - but also Know Your OS, Hard Drive, Router, Outlook Express, WOW, Mozilla, Overclocking - you get the picture.

I quite agree but any slogan is to suck in first timers - and explain in 3 seconds the primary focus of the site.

You weren't here the day Optonline came to my house in 2000 with speeds of 10/1! Lots of wildness.

Yep Justin I agree. Just like a tv ad has just 15 to 30 seconds to tell you all about a product and convince you to buy it.

Just wish there was some all encompassing slogan that got very close to the definition of this site. Thinking, thinking ....

Just stream of consciousness sort of thing:

-not your father's broadband
-we'll get you in the know
-internet essentials
-welcome to your computer (this one I like a lot)
-your computer and you
-technology at the speed of broadband
-broadband one byte at a time
-broadband how the big boys do it
-are you ready for some broadband ?
