[DSL] AOL Canada "PAP authentication failed." When I use PPPo

Forum Users:

I am a new subscriber to AOL Canada's Broadband / DSL service.

When I use AOL Canada supplied software (AOL 9.0 VR) with the AOL Canada supplied Speed Stream 4200 device I have no problems accessing the Internet.

If I attempt to log in with my, recently purchased, TP-Link TL-WR340GD router connected...using PPPoE...the router's Log indicates that it connects to AOL Canada but the Username and Password is rejected ("PAP authentication failed.") The same Username and password works fine if I use AOL supplied software (AOL 9.0 VR)?

If I do not connect the router and use only the AOL Supplied Speed Stream 4200 device and use MS Internet Explorer with PPPoE (instead of AOL's 9.0 VR)...the Username and Password is rejected? Even though the same Username and Password works with no problem when I use the AOL Canada supplied AOL 9.0 VR application?

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Is/are there known solution(s)?

Any suggestions for trouble-shooting techniques that I can follow step-by-step?

Questions/comments/suggestions? Please advise.

Cheers+

Re: [DSL] AOL Canada "PAP authentication failed." When I use

i have netscape canada dsl, which is aol.ca dsl and when i first got my account and installed the software i could not connect because my username/pass were invalid, when i phoned they said the username and pass were fine and worked on their end, so i got them to make another, same thing it worked for them and not for me, so i got another password, same problem, so finally after the 4th password it started to work for some reason, its definetly a problem on their end, i used to do internet tech support and i also do pc repair/sales and i know when its a problem on their end, when i recently re-installed windows i didn't even bother with the software, i just installed a driver for the modem and then setup the network account using the winxp network setup program and it has worked flawlessly ever since, once you get it sorted out and have a username and password that works right i imagine you can just get rid of the aol software like i did and save yourself a headache, all it seems to do for me is run services in the background that take up ram and it is way slower starting up a connection to the net, without it i connect to the net in about 1 second everytime
