| [OS X] Comcast removed my airport icon Ok I have kind of run into a problem with comcast's install wizard. Long story short I had to run that stupid install wizard and for some reason it removed the airport icon so now I have no idea about signal strength or what networks I'm connected to
Anybody experience this or know how to fix it? I don't have time machine so I can't roll things back unfortunately. -- Need some IT work? Hit me up, I'm now in IT recruiting and looking for ways to give back to the DSLreports community for all the years of support. |

1 edit | yeah that is clicked.
The damn wizard changed Airport in the preferences to "PCI Ethernet Slot â îâÃ, Port 2"
Something is screwy and it's not cool. It took over the preferences and icon.
Can't rename it either if you do and then activate the service it goes right back. |

You should also edit the locations list and delete the Comcast location. -- There is no dark side of the moon really, matter of fact it's all dark |

| I fixed it, just blew out and erased some preferences
Found this on a website that was dealing with the issue on a Macbook Air. To resolve this problem, navigate to:
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/
And delete the following files:
com.apple.airport.preferences.plist com.apple.network.identification.plist NetworkInterfaces.plist preferences.plist
Reboot your MacBook Air. |

AT&T made me run a disc to setup my DSL account for the first time, but at least it didn't change any system settings as far as I could tell! |

I never ran their CD... they must have changed something. AT&T made me run a disc to setup my DSL account for the first time, but at least it didn't change any system settings as far as I could tell! It was odd, we had comcast for a month and half and when we started service we never had to run a cd or wizard, then it went out and when it came back it kept giving us a login screen. So we clicked it, thinking it would be just verification and what not, and it downloaded the wizard.
Ran it thinking not a big deal which it turned out. Funny thing is that it never worked right and we called Comcast. They accepted our MAC address and let us back on the network.
So in the end it was just a pain in the ass and caused trouble. |

| reply to RiseAbove I avoid those setup discs like dog shit on the lawn.
I remember running one when I first got Verizon DSL about 3 years ago on a Winders laptop I had.
It was not a good experience. -- Petty people are disproportionably corrupted by petty power

| reply to RiseAbove When it gives you that login screen, just follow the steps like you are a comcast technician. The only difference is that you get to fill a web form instead of downloading a wizard.
Last time I tried to run that wizard it hosed my tiger install to the point of reformatting my computer, and it still didn't activate my modem. -- -Ryan sig for sale! Only one previous owner, lovingly cared for |

I've had various forms of broadband for almost 10 years now, and PPP dial-up accounts before that, and I've never run any kind of set up wizard. Either they were windows only, or they relied on some older system. Better to do it yourself so you'll know what your settings are. |
