Re: 3g iphone wifi speed Yup mine crashed running the test too. But I did get a decent speed next time I ran it. I also got 5.7Mbps on the iphonetest website. |

| reply to justin said by justin:Just an update. I think this is a problem with the iphone 3g and base stations offering higher speed than Wifi B mode. Maybe your phone has a defective .11g chip? Our network here is configured to do 802.11n/g/b, and I have no problems. |

Earlier, I also downloaded your big rugby image from .au, and noticed no slowdown when downloading it. What is your theory regarding how latency only affects certain 802.11 connections? |

| there is some speed negotiation problem with type N connections (perhaps or perhaps not from all Access Points) that only shows up on high latency transfers. I don't know what it is, but it is there.
it doesn't show up on 3g
it doesn't show up when the wifi signal goes to low or minimal.
It doesn't show up if you turn off "N" on your AP.
It shows up with airport extreme, but also other wifi routers.
Users in australia get very poor youtube transfer speeds over "n" wifi.

1 edit | The column layout on that link is very irritating to my eyes, so I didn't read most of it, but I will try again later.
I have to reiterate though, that I've done your transfer from Australia on my 3G iPhone over a 802.11b/g/n airport extreme network with no noticeable slowdown compared to normal transfers.
Edit: I watched both youtube videos in the linked whirlpool thread. My phone definitely behaves like the fast 2G phone, even though it's the new 3G. I have 5 bars of wifi strength. |
