I loaned a friend my Westell 2100. He went to cable and I needed the modem back. He lost it. He replace it with a bellsouth 6100 listed above but NO POWER SUPPLY!!
I had an extra ps from the 2100 but it has different power requirements. Can I use it?

| No, you should not use a 12v power supply to power a 10.5 v device. It might work, or it might fry the modem, or it might work for awhile and then fry the modem.
You could splice a pair of series-connected diodes into the 12v wire, to lower the voltage by about 1.4v. But they'd need to be bigger than the usual 1N4001 - 1N4007, because those are only rated for 1 amp (and it is best to run them at 1/2 amp or less). You could use a total of six: three in parallel (to get sufficient current-capability), in series with three more in parallel. But if all that is making you scratch your head, then you probably shouldn't attempt it.

Thanks for the post. I think I'll look around for the appropriate ps. |
