Firefox Says It Is Running

Does anybody else ever get the message "Firefox is already running" when you try to load it? I am using Firefox 3.0 on a laptop with Vista. I seem to get the message after being online for awhile and then logging out of Firefox and using another application. Then when I try to load Firefox again, I get the "already running" message. I wonder if this is an issue with my particular installation of Firefox?

I've seen that occasionally. Maybe once since I upgraded to 3.x. I don't know what causes it.

Just go into task manager and kill the firefox.exe process.

Yes that is exactly what I have to do. So it happens to other folks too I guess. I plan to upgrade to version 3.0.1 tonight so maybe that will take care of the problem. Other than that slight problem I really like Firefox 3.0 although lots of people say it is a resource hog. I have even learned to really like the Awesome Bar now.

I just got the same message today running Firefox 3.0.1.

What were you doing when it happened? I was trying to get a secure site to come in and it wouldn't load so I clicked Firefox off and when I tried to restart it, I got the message.

I found that Firefox 3.x takes a bit longer to completely shutdown, (imagine it also depends on how many add-ons and plugins are installed). Just give it a few seconds extra.

When I had NoScript loaded it was happening all the time, thought I fixed it by loading a older version of NS, that didn't work, so I dumped NS, FF works fine now.

I have the same problem once again in fact I had it do it with the restarts 3 times in about 10 minutes it is a glitch in FF for sure but what is causing it is my question. I have checked everything that can be checked and still have the problem.

I am sure this problem has cropped up before. Can you check to see if you have 2 profiles in you Firefox folder,if so delete the old one or to be safe, move it to another folder.

I myself have tried everything to fix this issue and the only solution that really worked is using Opera. I love FF and someone some day will figure out what is causing this issue.

No extra profile here. Just one.
