Good for them

Good for Bell thinking ahead and not reacting. Looks like resellers will be going out of business soon.

Re: Good for them

Rogers is a competitor. So you have something else. You also have the option to sign up with several WISPs that are up in Canada. Just look for them instead of bitching about Bell and Rogers.

Re: Good for them

Hey buddy, instead of claiming everyone doesn't know what they're talking about. canopy is NOT cheap. Also. That provides no more than 1-3 mbits per customer. if you have 1000 customers. your base station for canopy will need a whole SHITLOAD of hardware. which costs a whole shitload of money plus the money it takes to find towers to put it. plus the money it takes to send data from said base station to your backbone Plus said money to have a huge backbone.. PLUS such money as to add base stations EVERYWHERE PLUS such money as to get licenses AND COSTS to put said base stations at strategic locations = . ummm.. loan my ass.. you're just an arrogant american wannabe that thinks he knows all. Companies don't start off big, they start off small become big through hard work and effort. and to stay big, you have to satisfy customers. The way bell is killing of competition, well. how exactly are you suppose to become big if you're trying to start off and the big guy on the street decides to shoot you, and the cops look the other way? too bad? ok. well then you go to iraq or something where the guy with the biggest gun makes the laws. have fun. lets see how long you survive without a "big company" to hide behind.

Re: Good for them

Canopy is not licensed. It operates in unlicensed spectrum.

It can be done it has been done. You just need to stop giving excuses on why it can't be done up there ; just because you don't like bell you don't sue them. You compete against them using your own network.

this troll (ETA from Ohio) obviously does not understand true competition, oligopolies, collusion, barriers to entry - basic business 101 topics, and obviously does not fully understand wireless internet either.

I remember my business 101 class. 1000 students enrolled - only 100 completed the course with a passing grade. I'm guessing if the troll even took such a course, that they were below the 90th percentile of student results.

I was in the 90th percentile of that class - 99.8 actually - and went on to graduate 4 years later in the same percentile. I understand the principles of business competition.

In layman's terms what the troll fails to understand - is... well a huge list of things - but to be simple - just because having more than 1 business supply a product/service is necessary to have competition, it does NOT ensure that competition exists.

Re: Good for them

Yes it will ensure competition exists.

Remember i come from the retail world. The Home Depot and Lowe's have competition. Look at how they are. Walmart does in some areas. And look how big those companies are.

You just need to understand business today. If you can't compete get out of the business.

You guys wouldnt be able to run a business down here. Especially in my former City. Companies there would run you out of business within 3 months.

Re: Good for them

you literally fail to understand... i'm sorry but home depot or lowe's didn't start off as a huge chain... not only that, i'm sure they had a hard time at the beginning too.. and guess what? there probably wasn't huge bullies around when they started. because if there were they could have easily "run you out of business within 3 months" by using underhanded tactics because you wouldn't have enough money to defend yourself .. in which case home depot and lowes wouldn't exist today.. the whole point of the government and regulatory bodies is to make laws to prevent the big bullies from lying and cheating to kill off anyone they don't like.

i guess you prefer whoever has the biggest gun has the right to murder everyone else.. to each his own.. you have the right to your opinion. but thats exactly the reason and mentality thats pummeling the States into the ground right now. all that cheating and lying is catching up to them... the irony funny though. the very thing that you're saying about you dont resell someone elses product.. well guess what, almost everything we sell is made in china or india.. so have fun defending that.

Re: Good for them

Actually The founders of The Home Depot actually did open up stores to compete against the company they used to work for. What happened to that company they worked for? It closed.

Why THD knew what they were doing. Lowe's was started to cater to the little DIYer and competed against Home Depot as well as other companies that were much bigger and around longer than what they were when they started. And look where they are.

Also look at the 3rd largest Home Improvement Store in the world. They're privately held and are able to compete just fine. They started out just fine.

but they're no laws keeping any of these companies from being "protected" if you can under cut someone else to stay in business then by all means go ahead and do it.

The Anti-trust law here does not protect for that. They do not regulate pricing.

If you actually read the article (or even the title), it clearly states these are NOT resellers.
