[Mozilla] FF3 crashes sometimes after opening site from History

FWIW I upgrade to 3 a few weeks ago, I had one mirror issue with my bank site but that’s been resolved. To date FF3 has probably crashed more times than my use of FF1 & FF2 combined. The reason I say that is I don’t think FF1 ever crashed on me and FF2 crashed maybe 3 times tops for the entire series. I like FF3 but it has crashed about four times so far. Both of the last two times it’s crashed it was shortly after I opened the History and linked from there. I have 9 extensions and I used the FF3 tweaks by creating the user.js file, could it be a tweak on the user.js file or should I just delete it? Please advise

TIA

Re: [Mozilla] FF3 crashes sometimes after opening site from Hist

The tweaks should not mess with your history at all. I would leave them in place.

Extension usually cause problems in Fx so I would look at what you have installed and what actions they perform, blocking ads, flash, java, tab extensions forcing Fx to use tabs or windows, etc...
------------------------------
I have had Fx v3 crash 1x when I was working from the history sidebar.

I am using Minefield/3.1a1pre now and have had no crashes through the history or otherwise but it is alpha and I do not recommend it to anyone unless they want to test Fx.

Most crashes are related to corrupt profile or incompatible extensions.

I have the following extensions installed:

Adblock 0.5.3.043
Flagfox 3.2.7
Forecastfox 0.9.7.7
IE View 1.3.7
InformEnter 0.5.5.3
Mediaplayerconnectivity 0.9.1
No Script 1.7.7
Oldbar 1.2 (disabled)
ReloadEvery 3.0.0
User Agent Switcher 0.6.11

I could probably live without IE View, User Agent Switcher, Flagfox and Oldbar but I’ve grown accustomed the others

EDIT: If you guys don’t see any issues with my extensions maybe I’ll give Lanik’s uninstall method a shot and if that don’t work I’ll roll back to FF2 if it gets any worst

Lanik's method? I am offended.
That took me a half hour to type out.

Seriously though I see only one extension that may be causing a problem and that is ReloadEvery 3.0.0

Try disabling that and see what happens.

Sorry about that, I should have known better but I’m from NJ.....

anyway I disabled ReloadEvery and rifled though about 30 - 40 selections in the history and it didn’t miss a beat. It may be premature but so far so good.... I'll live without the ReloadEvery, that was a good one for eBay but I no longer have the patience for eBay bidding

Let me know if the problem seems resolved after you use Fx for a week or so.

That is about all you can do.

I understand, I just wanted to report back. If I get some time later I’ll disable everything and see if I could get it to crash. maybe even do the reinstall. If it becomes too annoying I’ll roll back to FF2, at least everything worked with that

Before going back to Fx v2.0.0.16 I would doa clean install using Fx v3.0.1 and then install an extension see if Fx/History causes it to crash. If not install another extension.

Do you have the latest flash & java installed?

I have Java Plug-in 1.6.0_05 and Shockwave Flash 9.0 r124. I did a backup with MozBackup before I did the “clean install”, I installed FF3 from the Add/Remove and checked and verified that all previous settings & add-ons were wiped. I then reinstalled FF from the Add/Remove and did the restore from MozBacup. The odd part is now the following extensions are no longer compatible with FF 3.0.1 whereas they were OK yesterday.

Oldbar
ReloadEvery (which we disabled yesterday)
User Agent Switcher
IE View
Adblock

I had FF 3.0.1 prior to uninstall, I got it with the auto updater a few days ago. I did a fresh install of Adblock. I could live without the others but I’d like to put IE View back on at some point but now the “Author is not verified”, so I’ll hold off for now on that one. I'll do some testing later on with the History and see if I could crash it again....

Figure 1

Figure 2
Just install Mr. Tech Toolkit set up a few options in it. Everything is self-explanatory in each tab.

Under the Misc Tab(Figure 1) set it up as in my image then go back and install your extension(s)that Fx said were incompatible.
-----------------------
If any installed extensions are already marked as incompatible you can force them to be compatible. (Figure 2)

You will also see a check box in the Addons Manager when the install window is open that says something like "Disable XPI Compatibility Check. This should be check already from Figure 1 but if not check it as you install an extension.

Toolkit will not fix extensions to work only force the install so if you find any not working after installing them uninstall the extension(s) and contact the developer if possible.
