| [hard drive] laptop hard drive help
i have a hp zv6005us which currently has a 80gig 4200rpm drive installed it is starting to go and i would like to upgrade it to a 120gig 5400 which i was told i can to on a couple of forums. howver hp says the most i can put in is a 100gb 4200 and according per the hp manual i can install the following 5400-rpm 80-GB 60-GB
4200-rpm 100-GB 80-GB 60-GB 40-GB
the problem is is if i stay with the 80 or 100 most are refurbished and cost between 80-100 the 120gb drives are around $60 at newegg. will i need to change update the bios if i go higher and if so is it easy to do. i have windows xp operating software disk and driver disk which can with laptop. i have changed hardrives before but they where the same model as they where under warranty.
thanks for help |

| i dont see any reason why you couldnt use the hard drive you want even though it isnt on HPs recommended list.
i am not completely familiar with newegg's return policy, but i would look to see if you can return a hard drive that has been opened. if you can, there is no harm (other than wasted days) in purchasing the item you'd prefer and putting it into your laptop. you would not need to upgrade the bios to install a new hard drive.
also, ensure that you purchase an IDE hard drive, and not a sata one. |

| I would go with the seagate just because it has a 5yr warranty You can also check the 'for sale' section for a better and cheaper deal |
