MarthaG : I wanted to post how my UM 150 is working now. It seems a little more stable. I have had times recently where my signal strength would jump around. I would go to 1X then rA then DO. It's been like a roller coaster ride. Sometimes a page won't load and I refresh the page and it loads. I watched my signal drop over the spring and summer because of the trees from about 1000 down to 500 down. Recently since the problems started I can go as low as 250 down. The upload speed still stays around 80.

anon : Krileon
I have the UM150 also and have the same problem. I am 3.8 miles from the tower. I have had this from the beginning and the only reason I have stuck it out and kept pouring time and money into it is that my wife uses it for tele-comuting (satelite latency is a problem for her application). I have found that sometimes disconnecting quicklink and re-connecting is enough to wake it up and get it to go back to EVDO. So far over a period of several months I have bought an omni-directional truckers antenna, the craddlepoint mbr 2000 and finally now a directional antenna (yagi). I don't have the dropping down into 1x happen as much with the yagi but I notice it happening every day. I have also been trying the cyfre CA-819 on loan but I'm not having any luck with it. I feel like if we could get into the modem and disable the fallback to 1x I would be much happier too!
