Re: Problem - Avast! Home Edition 4.8.1227

Odd. I am running XP SP3 and I did the update yesterday and so far I am fine.

What firewall are you using? I'm trying to narrow the possibilities?

Perhaps I should do a full re-install of V4.8.1227 (after doing a TI image first)? Hate to give up on Online Armor--just started using it after the recent ZoneAlarm/Windows update fiasco. Advice?

Perhaps I should do a full re-install of V4.8.1227 . . . .
Or just go back to the .1201 version you were using without issue.
One of the new changes apparently doesn't play well with your machine configuration.

Or you could post in the Avast forums about it, and see what advice is offered there.

I've posted in both the Avast and Online Armor forums but haven't had much response. One Avast member advised that I uninstall OA. OA has been working just fine and I don't really know if it's the problem. Event viewer indicated that Windows Defender wasn't happy. Spent half my Sunday on this so far.

Edit: Added more info.

Then I can only recommend the other option I mentioned.

I looked at the changelog, and while improvements are always nice, I saw nothing earth-shaking there that would make me believe I had to have this latest version installed come hell or high water.

Sage advice Abie. I'll go back to v.1201 (after doing a fresh TI image).
Thanks.

Always debatable.

There you go.
And there's nothing that prevents that from being simply a temporary solution, at least until such time as more info, etc. becomes available for you.

Sorry. I was away on vacation.
I am using Kerio PF 2.1.5 with my own rule set.

But I just updated Avast again and it seems that they updated again. Looks like new version is 1229. Does that help? Maybe they fixed it.

I had a similar problem with that Avast update. I ended up uninstalling Avast, uninstalling ProcessGuard, uninstalling Online Armor, cleaning out the traces of them in the registry, reinstalling Avast 4.8.1227, reinstalling OA. I can't tell you what the problem was, only that that fixed it (after trying several lesser solutions that did not).

Thanks for your comments fatness See Profile--v.1201 continues to work just fine and I'm receiving daily datafile updates. I'll probably do a full install of the new v.1229 rather than using the internal updater--I suspect that may have been the problem. I was also advised at the OA forum to put the firewall into "learning mode" when I next install a program update for Avast.

I had originally gone back to v.1201, which worked fine. Being stubborn I decided to try v.1227 again and the whole machine felt like it was in a tar pit. Now, after all the uninstalls/reinstalls mentioned above it's already updated to v.1229 and working fine.
