[FP] Let's Vote on Foldy6!Per this thread » [FP-Board] Board Input Needed-Foldy6We are needing authorization for the FP Board to expend funds for the replacement of Foldy6 that has met its maker... There is already a $250 match donation by an anonymous Angel, plus some recent donations to the treasury. This, with the match from GarG is a wonderful deal for everyone involved. Perhaps we can even get enough in the near future to set up another box for someone? Anyway, I am getting ahead of myself! Please respond in the thread if you are "for" or "against" the expenditure of FP donated funds as outlined for the replacement of Foldy6. Thanks! -Matt |

Yes, assuming the plan is to buy another Dell quad (because of the warranty) with a legit Windows license. If funds allow, a license for Vista Premium or Ultimate and the RAM upgrade to 3G would be preferred. |

Yes to the Dell Quad, Windows, and the one I saw the link to was already 3GB RAM so I think we're on the right track, correct? Link here --> » configure.us.dell.com/de ··· G4&s=dhs |

If XP is still available, I would recommend that. If Vista, 32 bit. And, I vote yes. |

It comes with Vista Home Premium included in the $499 price. quote: Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium Service Pack 1 [Included in Price]
Would that suffice? $120 extra for Vista Ultimate seems a bit pricey. I don't think a folder would need entertainment or business benefits? quote: Genuine Windows Vista® Ultimate Service Pack 1 [add $120 or $4/month1] Dell recommended: The most complete version of Windows Vista®. Delivers both home entertainment and business benefits.
I would suggest the $10 upgrade to the 3GIG 800Mhz ram, rather than the standard 3GIG 667Mhz RAM, however. As Howie pointed out in the Dell thread. Other that that question, and suggestion, I voterd Yep. |

said by ehansman:What's the new balance in the treasury? Are we getting close to forcing GarG to take out a second mortgage yet for the match? I can tell you that our anonymous donation of $250 has been received by Sarah. GarG had better break out the pen! Or the Debit Card! Or the Cash!!! |

I don't think a folder would need entertainment or business benefits? The problem with the Home Basic Froggy received is that it didn't have Remote Desktop and he couldn't run VNC on it. I don't know if Home Premium will do that or not. If it does, I don't see a problem. If not, then I think it needs an OS which will cooperate, for the Op who doesn't have a monitor for it or a KVM setup that will work. said by MstrBlstr:I would suggest the $10 upgrade to the 3GIG 800Mhz ram, rather than the standard 3GIG 667Mhz RAM, however. It doesn't support RDC by default. One of the many things that M$ decided to cripple in the lower versions of Vista.
VNC will run, but it is a pain to get working correctly. And it uses quite a bit of the system resources compared to other alternatives.
As for RDC... It is there... just broken. It can be fixed quickly, but I won't go into that unless someone asks.
Personally, I have always just used the free logmein (when possible) with no issues. |

IMO, how one does things is as important, if not more important, than what one does. The key here is legal. I think, in view of the issues TwoFrogs had with his broken OS, the foldies should be provided with a functional Windows OS. |
