| Odd router repeater setup question
Hi. Today I went out and bought a Netgear Rangemax DualBand Wireless N Draft 2.0 router. Model no. WNDR3300 to replace my old Linksys WRT54G V4. All our computers in the house are Apple's with Wireless N airport cards. The room my router is in is central to all the computers, but the situation is that the dedicated DSL phone jack and now emergency landline is in that room. All the other jacks in the house have been disconnected to install VT VOIP. Is there any way I can use my old Linksys router that's running DD-WRT V24 firmware to pick up the signal from my Netgear router and use it to provide an ethernet connection to the VOIP adapter and possibly an XBOX using the router settings because I noticed it has a repeater setting on both units. But I was worried about the quality of the signal since it will be for VOIP, and also since they are different manufactures. The Netgear is running factory software.
Sorry for this long and probably poorly worded post. It's almost 6:00 A.M here and I have been up all night looking for the best solution to this because I would hate to have to run Ethernet wiring or new phone lines.
Thanks in advanced!
Edit: One other question, sorry I am still trying to get up to date on N and all this. But I noticed my router model is compatible with DD-WRT firmware, is there an better performance I would gain by using DD-WRT over the standard Netgear firmware? |

| Before you fudge things up too much, try putting the WRT in client bridge mode connecting to the new ferrari. It will prolly work fine as a bridge. -- I spent most of my money on Women and Beer, and the rest I just wasted ! |

But other than that it's really not 10x the signal like they say it is. I just bought it because it was cheap and on sale and compatible with my current setup. The guy tried to get me to buy this $180 Linksys wireless N router that's supposed to be so much better than the Netgear. But I figure they are all about the same. And I don't need it for much more than casual surfing and Slingbox, my kids XBOX360 and the VOIP. |
