I'd watch (check 3 -4 times a day) the signal for a couple days.

Serveral possible causes, reguarless of what is putting you at 58 without the splitter, it's the issue.

You could have a bas section of cable, the plant [main feed of cable in your neighborhood area] could need to be swept by lineman, the fitting on a piece of cable could be bad/have suckout, the splitter on the side of your house [if there is one] could be bad, the modem could be dying, etc...

a. Call a tech.
