Any news on higher speed?

I remember a few months ago a bunch of people were getting 8mb. Is there any new news as to potential availability of any higher speeds?

Your 8 ball is broken. Faster speeds are on their way. I think they still trying to empty out their packet loss though.

They better and drop the price when you pay $57.99 - $63.99 for 6 meg when 6 meg dsl is half at $30.

768kbps* $34.99 dsl price $15
2Mbps* $40.99 dsl price for 1.5 is $20
4Mbps* $46.99 dsl price for 3.0 is $25

i agree with that. the prices are too high for the speeds we get. only issue with DSL is that you gotta get phone service, and thats where the phone companies rip off i like my cheap vonage service

Don't forget the $30 a month phone line that's required for those prices.

Prices won't drop, but speeds will go up.

Same old blah blah. People here keeping saying just wait, faster speeds are coming and thats been going on for months.Believe it when it happens. I have had techs and supervisors out several times for modem and wiring problems and each of them said the same. Testing is in progress for business class only. So who knows. People are not here with wow for blazing fast speeds but for value. Kind of like shopping for a ferrari at a hyndai dealer. They won't have it. So until wow gets faster speeds everyone should just enjoy the good mileage and not get there as fast.

I'd love to come back to WOW but for me, internet speeds rein supreme. In my area, WOW's competition is RoadRunner (offers 15 megs) and U-verse (10 megs+NSA piggy backing+horrible service problems=yuck). I hope against hope that some day, WOW can offer 15 megs and at a price that's a little cheaper than Insight and they'll gain me back as a customer.

It seems that when WOW was bought out a little while back by that investment firm, they've kinda stagnated and don't seem to interested in offering anything bigger/better than their competition.

It's been a long time waiting on this. The last speed increase I've seen has been more than three years ago.

As a company, they clearly aren't catering to the speed freaks, but rather to the average users of the system. For this reason, I don't think that they really see any need or incentive to upgrade. For average users, an increase in speed won't amount to much difference whatsoever, but for those bandwidth whores...the difference will be very significant to the load of the network overall.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a pretty savvy computer guy. Systems admin for a living, and hardcore Linux user so I download plenty of large files. But I don't have this constant download of movies and music going on that so many other people seem to have. I hear of people downloading hundreds of GB's in a month and I cannot for the life of me imagine what they do with all this stuff and where they store it.

So, even as a computer guy, I'm perfectly satisfied with my 6mbps service that I have through WOW. And I think that if I'm satisfied with that, I'd bet an overwhelming majority of average WOW customers feel the same way. In fact, i don't think a majority have even upgraded from the 4mbps service.

To me, I just enjoy being with WOW. Their service is far better. Unfortunately, we are going to move in the next year or two and will be in a non-WOW area...so while my speeds will increase, I'll most likely be back with Comcast...and that to me is a very big bummer.

I emailed somebody high up at WOW! and he said speed increases are coming early this fall (along with more HD early this fall).

jmr - did you get any info as to what speeds and what HD channels would be coming? (even speculation on your part would be appreciated)

Sorry - no specific info... just that higher speeds are coming early in the fall.

Comcast is adding 15 more HD channels in the Chicago area tomorrow so WOW better have plans on adding more than just 4 HD channels the next time around.
