Re: [DSL] AOL Browser Problems i have had strange problems with my account, i use netscape dsl tho, which is aol i have no idea why they have netscape and aol isp's they are the same company and compete with eachother even when i read my ToS it all says aol, netscape isn't mentioned at all, and when i phone tech support sometimes they answer as aol, i think they just grabbed the netscape name because it was well known, i think they were hoping to incorporate the netscape browser into their accounts but netscape browser became obsolete, anyway for the first poster, i'm not sure what the problem is because i use IE for my browser but i have had problems with my internet connection software from them so i don't even use it anymore i just used a different modem driver and windows network setup and it works way better and faster now, so they do have problems with their software, if i was you i would stop using that browser if possible, there is a command you can type when you hit start/run that does something called unbranding internet explorer, if that is the browser that aol is using as their own, and what it does is just gets rid of the 3rd party crap in the browser so its just IE again. The fact that you can use email and other programs when the browser stops working is strange, those other programs use different ports from a browser, the browser uses port 80, so it could be a problem with your ports maybe caused by spyware, if you use IE try hitting tools/internet options/connections/lan settings and make sure automatically detect settings is checked, another possible cause is that your browser may for some reason be working in offline mode which would cause all the problems you mentioned, if that is the case then hit the file tab at the top left and there is an option that says work offline, if it has a checkmark next to it click on it and that will fix your problem, hope this info helps.
And the second poster, i have run into that problem 3 or 4 times where i lost my connection and sometimes the line led on my modem would flash meaning it lost connection to the isp, what i had to do to fix it the first time was to get a new phonecord and splitter cause i had line noise, when it happened again the few times after that all i had to do was unplug the modem for 30 seconds and then plug it in again and it was fine for a month or 2, sometimes a lightning storm can cause probs and you have to reset the modem. hope i could help |
