Re: [Vista] Blu-ray & Vista Media Center

I thought I read in the last two weeks that MS dropped it from the upcoming update to Vista Media Center and that it was a marketing decision to withhold it so they could list it as a new feature in Windows 7.
They say the same thing about DirecTV and H.264 support. There are reports of H.264 functionality in earler Betas but it was pulled in RC0.

That’s the first I have heard of it.

So by that logic all one would need to do is install a compliant Blu-ray decoder application and use a utility to assure that Vista Media Center uses the new decoder.

Again, I have never heard this before so I’m guessing that you are referring to the new Media Center TV Pack 2008.

They did, they added DRM support for BD - like they did with XP's COPP in SP2.

It's just the decoder thing you'd need. Same thing with DVD decoder for XP MCE - MCE will not support DVD playback until you install DVD decoder.

It's not like they are preventing you from watching it. Plus blu-ray support was new in 2006.

I can't believe how far behind MS is on this Blu-Ray business. It's difficult to get the family interested in VMC when you have to come and start the program for them.

Microsoft should release that "TV Pack 2008" already (to all Vista WMC users, not just OEM's)... Not sure if it includes BD support but it seems like a major upgrade and one that I could surely use.

Vista Media Center does not have native support for Blu-ray or HD DVD. Cyberlink PowerDVD 8 and Arcsoft TotalMedia Theater have Vista Media Center plug-ins to allow the user to launch the application and to return to Vista Media Center.

It's my understanding that even the new Windows Media Center TV Pack doesnt support Blu-ray although we don't know for sure yet.

Has anyone gotten a Blu-ray disc to play in VMC? The only way I have is to drop out of Media Center and use PowerDVD.
