They will have access to the archives and be able to check.

They may not be able to do it for you, but you may get lucky.

Another option is look for some of the online associations for the various universities.

I found a jacket via Ebay, but it was the wrong one.

Well, if he was going to school in Halifax at some point, St. Mary's University in Halifax uses an "M" in some of their sports logos and their colours are white and burgundy so that's another possibility. The "M" is not the same style as the picture but that was a long time ago. But surely someone in the family would know or family records would show where he went to university???

McGill colours are red and white. McMaster is grey and maroon. Memorial University's colours are claret (a deep red) and white, which would fit that jacket.
