I currently have the DCT3416 HD/DVR Motorola STB.
Is this the most current box out there for RCN?
Is it advised to upgrade if there is a newer box (DCH series like my other HD box)?? |

| Motorola is soon releasing DCX series. The follow on generation to the DCH's. Assuming the software isn't buggy, would be nice to get those in our hands.
Hopefully, Motorola is going to release versions with big hard drives. For the money RCN is now charging us for HD-PVR's ($17 or $18??) They really should give us WAY more space than 160GB.. (How about 400GB, or 500GB RCN???)

| reply to tigrzeye I have the DCT3416 as well, and I believe it's the latest Motorola STB that RCN is offering.
Apparently the DCX boxes are designed for the transition to MPEG4 video. I assume they do MPEG2, as well. I guess these boxes are the next logical step for cable operators who intend to transition to MPEG4. |

@rcn.com | reply to tigrzeye I just picked up a new HD/DVR box today in Arlington, MA and got the DCH3416. The other box which I've had for awhile is the DCT. |

1 edit | reply to tigrzeye 64xx series have analog tuners so you can get the analog versions of the channels (in 900s) [if not in crush area]
34xx series do not have analog tuners, so if digital feeds are out, you don't get nada.

I have the DCT3416. |

| DCH's are basically removable security versions of the DCT boxes (to satisfy the FCC mandate). I don't believe they are significantly different functionality wise. RCN is not legally allowed to deploy any NEW DCT's, but they can deploy recycled ones.
DCX's are a new generation of boxes all together, supporting new cool stuff, (of course, if the MSO chooses to offer the new cool stuff).
Of course, all I really want is MORE HD SPACE!!! (Anyone listening??? ) |

| said by mjr :RCN is not legally allowed to deploy any NEW DCT's, but they can deploy recycled ones. I don't know if it's still in place, but I believe they had a waiver from the FCC that allowed them to continue to deploy boxes without addressable security. |

For anyone who is using this model of STB with RCN cable, is the PIP feature active? |
