You are correct that the DSL service is not resold Bell service (although the demarc to DSLAM and back-haul is handled by Bell on a wholesale basis.)
The home phone and long distance service though is resold Bell service. Call Bell's billing and they see your account as a commercial customer. I suppose one could say that this isn't a DSL issue but it is a con in that Bell provides the last mile for both voice and data in Ontario.
I've found TSI's support to be far superior in all aspects (billing, customer support, and technical support) in comparison to Bell. However, at the end of the day, if there is a problem between you and the CO or with the voice side of your service it's ultimately a Bell tech who needs to take care of it. In an ideal world this would not be a problem, as TSI can issue a ticket with Bell to get a problem resolved.
But so far when I've had problems, it's been Bell holding things up. For example, I spoke to TekSavvy about getting the demarcation point on my house upgraded to a proper modern NID from the existing WWII-era equipment (a task that is ultimately Bell's responsibility). Tech support at TSI was helpful in issuing a request for service through Bell. First Bell tries to avoid sending out a technician, then after several phone calls and an upfront payment from me, Bell books an appointment to send out a tech to upgrade the demarc. Of course, no tech shows up, so more phone calls to TSI. I have no doubts that TSI is responsive but ultimately Bell is the one that can break the promise and make TSI look bad through no fault of its own.
Hopefully I will never have a significant problem with the last mile of my service, but if I do it will be Bell who can make or break the experience. TSI is great but an unavoidable con is Bell's involvement. |
