Paradyne/Zone 6218-I2: admin password & port forwarding

My sister-in-law just signed up for DSL service and her phone company gave her a Zhone/Paradyne 6218-I2-xxx router. Mind if I ask a few questions re this device?

(No, I don't know which phone company it is; she's in Southern Illinois.)

1. I downloaded the manual from Zhone's website site. It states that user (read-only) access to the router's config has username/password "user/user" and the administrative login is "admin/admin". I find that the user login works, but the admin doesn't. Either the manual I'm reading is not accurate for this model or the DSL provider changed the password from the default. Can someone confirm that "admin/admin" is always the default username/password for this model of router?

2. I would like to enable port forwarding on the router, to enable the use of WinXP's Remote Desktop. (That is, I want to forward port 3389 from the router to a given client machine.) Can someone point to to any doc on how to enable port forwarding on the 6218?

Thanks.

Could it the ISP be Consolidated Communications?

If so, try admin/cciadmin.

Hey. I found this post off of google (searched for 6218-I2-xxx, the zHone router 'name'), and I also use Consolidated Communications.

The Admin User/Pass works perfectly. Thanks a lot Harvesters.

I finally found a way to fix the same issue with port forwarding on the 6218 router...

check out the solution here:

I have a slightly different problem. I setup Remote Management, but I cannot login, it keeps giving me the login box. This happens with Telnet as well, I can connect, but can't get authenticated. I have a virtual server setup on port 80, so the modem is now on 8080. I having the same issue with the virtual server, where I get the login page to the service but it will not go any further.

How are you testing it? If you are on the same LAN it will not work.
