Manny Ramirez Caught Jaywalking

quote:
Seems that Boston slugger Manny Ramirez was leaving the ballpark, with headphones on trying to look inconspicuous and quickly get away from the crowds still leaving the stadium. He started to cross South Royal Brougham Way, against the signals of a traffic cop who was directing pedestrians. The police officer demanded that Ramirez open his wallet and show identification. He warned him that he could face a $500 fine and possible arrest for disobeying a police officer.

It became clear to those watching that the policeman had no idea who Ramirez was. He didn't ask for an autograph or anything, but did ask Ramirez if he'd attended the game. After the brief lecture, and no argument from Ramirez, the police officer let him go with no further trouble.
He's in Manny's World even when crossing the street!

Wasn't the officer out of line by demanding that he show identification? He wasn't driving a car.

When I first heard about this halfway through the story I was afraid it was going to end far worse, but in the end it's a pretty sorry news story.

He gave probable cause and initiated contact when he committed the jaywalking.

It would have been news if Manny pushed the cop to the ground and demanding more tickets to the game.

I wonder with his level of intelligence, what could Manny Ramirez actually be if he couldn't hit a baseball? I don't think he could hold down a job at Mcdonalds.

But he is stacked and could hold down his boss and extort money out of him for "protection".

I jaywalk all the time, I've got places to be and can't be bothered with crossing at the signal. Of course, I always check for traffic before crossing.

Everyone in City of Boston jaywalks! Doesn't matter what light you have, the pedestrians have right of way 100% of time. Bostonians don't bother to look both ways and they just step out or run across (sometimes w/ headphones too).

Only motorist can be cited for not yielding. Never heard of a jaywalking violation here.

I do know that west coast states and Canada enforce jaywalking.
