Do you have to get an AT&T supplied modem if they are your ISP? I'm currently running a 220030 Westell (Bridge mode) and an Airport Extreme.
Thanks. |

| Officially you will be on your own for support. Though there are a handful of agents that will know what to do to setup one of those, but it is against their guidelines to actually do it. With other modems, usually the only thing you have to do is set the vpi/vci to the right parameters and put in the pppoe username and password. Some modems already come with the correct vpi/vci. |

| reply to rgar98 I'm using an Actiontek modem/wifi router I bought at CompUSA. I don't think the router is particularly powerful and the interface is kind of spartan but it certainly works and is reliable. -- 09:F9:11:02:9D:74:E3:5B:D8:41:56:C5:63:56:88:C0 |

My story was 2 weeks ago I returned from Maine to find my 2800VG Draytek would no longer connect consistently. I called tech support, they could not help. They reset the port and would not allow me to speak to level 2 support because the modem was not theirs. I insisted it was a line problem, but without the stats from their modem, no further support was available. I ordered a 2wire 2701hg-b from sales, received it, called tech support with the same problem, they rolled a truck, fixed the line and now everything is peachy. After all the years of using non approved modems, since May of 2000, I finally gave in because my time is better spent letting tech support help me instead of fight me. My draytek is in the attic, in a box and the 2wire has a stronger signal without antennas than my draytek with 2 external higher gain antennas. My download speed went from 6.1 to 2.8 to now a very steady 6.6 on giganews. I am satisfied, although I guess I am just "giving in to the man" as it were. My two cents... |
