| Compaq Prolient DL380
I aquired a Compaq Prolient DL380 G2 recently, with no CPU's and no memory.
I bought 2 gigs of RAM for it, no problems.
I buy two Pentium 3 1ghz CPU's and I get 805-Unsupported Processor Detected. Okay, I buy two different Pentium 3's 1ghz and I get the same error. I even pulled up the specs for the G2 and bought the processor with the same model #.
I tried switching the jumpers to reset the ROM bios. I tried removing the CMOS battery. I tried just 1 processor, of each kind separately to make sure it wasn't a conflict of having two processors installed at the same time.
The sticker on the server says: Compaq Prolient DL380 DL380R02 P1266 S12 US D208JZG1K481
I am stumped...
Check out the pictures for further reference.

| Two thoughts: If you know the actual model number (######-###), you can follow the link here: »partsurfer.hp.com/cgi-bin/spi/ma···bmit.y=4
you can then find out for sure which cpu you should be using...after follow several links, there are multiple cpus used in that model and it is possible you don't have the right one.
The second thought would be that there is something wrong with it, which would explain why it was stripped to begin with. Even if it was operational before parts were pulled from it, doesn't mean it still works. -- Google is your Friend |

Hardware might be non working, who knows...I'll try and find a matching CPU for the board...
Thanks again, I thought I was going to be in the dark for this one for a long time. -- -eXodus |

Could somebody shed some light into this situation? Did you update the bios? You may need a updated bios to use the cpus that you have in there? |

| reply to eXodus From what I can find about your server and since they were made for servers it may be looking for 1133mhz - 1400mhz pentium III-S (note the -S)chips with 512k cache instead of 256k. That would mean P3 tulatin cores. Im guessing your 1ghz pIII's are run of the mill desktop coppermines. I've seen the -S variants on fleabay for not much more than the coppermines."The sticker on the server says: Compaq Prolient DL380 DL380R02 P1266 S12 US D208JZG1K481" It would also make sense as 1266-s is a model of the tulatins.
heres a quote from the pIII wiki "Pentium III Tualatins were released during 2001 until early 2002 at speeds of 1.0, 1.13, 1.2, 1.26, 1.33 and 1.4 GHz. Tualatin performed quite well, especially in variations which had 512 KiB L2 cache (called the Pentium III-S). The Pentium III-S variant was mainly intended for servers, especially those where power consumption mattered, i.e., thin blade servers." |

I will order Pentium III-S somewhere between 1133mhz and 1400mhz...whichever I can find.
I never thought about that number on the sticker, thanks for pointing that out! -- -eXodus |
