| [Need Info] System Mechanic 8 vs. Tuneup Utilities 2008
Ive used both System Mechanic version 4 and Tuneup Utilities, versions 2004 and 2006, but cant find any reviews that compare each of new products in a features-comparison method and a results test as to which is better by function.
Got an email deal on SM8 for $25 (pro version for $35, which includes AV and Firewall) and since I now have a Vista laptop in my house, I need a new tuneup tool since TU 2006 - my current installed tuneup product for my XP systems - doesn't support Vista. TU only will give me $10 off, but price diff between the 2 products is acceptable if TU is superior to SM.
Recommendations or suggestions? Im currently leaning towards the SM product as it has spyware protection, and with spybot gone as a free tool, I guess that Ill have to pay for a tool from somewhere. I dont like Googles free tool as it wont do removals fot spyware that it finds, and Im not crazy about Webroot products.
Finally, does anyone have experience with Iolo's av and firewall products as offered in the Pro version of SM? Do they play nicely with other systems using Symantec Corp products? I cant find any reviews on the AV and firewall prods from Iolo. (Background info: I have 5 PC's on my network so intercommunication compatibility and access is essential. For example McAfee's Security Suite totally ignores any PC using a Symantec firewall product and no manner of messing with either firewall product will allow a non-McAfee PC to be "trusted" on a McAfee-managed networked PC) -- Remember: To err is human. A computer is required to really mess things up! |
