As a former fios rep, I suspect those must be fairly rare or only exist in the Northeast, as neither I nor any of my cow-irkers eever encountered a setup like that.
As a former fios rep, if by some twist of fate Verizon took over my area and offered fios I would order only internet and I'd insist upon a Cat 5 run to my router. Those actiontec M142s are crap. I'd even be willing to pay an extra, one-time fee for such an install.
