| usenet-news.net I have used NG since the internet began, 2 or 3 years before Covad DSL. My wife got a free dial up subscription through college, and I also subscribed to some long forgotten service at $20 for 20 hours a month. 
I used whatever service Covad gave me, (can't remember what) then I switched to OOL and their NG sucked big time (2 crappy connections only I think) and then I went to Verizon DSL where they were pretty good at the time. Hell you could let it run all night and download a complete DVD  Then along came FIOS and I could get a DVD in an hour and a CD in 15 minutes. I was and still am using Grabit, running 7 or so connections.
Then along came Andrew Cuomo  so I now use Usenet-News.net. I do subscribe to some techy groups, Microsoft, Adobe etc and occasionally some others 
I am not a heavy downloader, $10 gets me 30 gig and that lasts me a month or so. I like paying for a 10 gig block and I can almost max out my 10 megabit down with 7 connections. I think it takes a bit longer to download headers than with the old VZ newsgroups but since the retention is months longer I am pretty happy with usenet-news.net. |
