Bad Weather Causing Problems In NJ

Late last night around 12 pm when it was raining and thundering and lightning, I guess something hit a generator where I live and we lost our power for like 30 seconds, but when it came back online our router wasnt being noticed by other computers, so linksys told me to switch a ethernet cable to my computer and we had to setup the network again. But now since we put the cable in that different spot on the computer, we keep losing connections for like a few seconds. Anyone know why that is?.

let's see if we're clear... you have connection, can surf, and then lose it intermittently? have you powercycled? and can you post your signals in case it's the modem at this point?

Sure, I'll try and post the signals, I gotta find out what kinda modem it is first cause its not in my room its in my brothers room where the router is.

where are you in mullica hill? this area is building up so quick...

back to OT:
are you plugged directly into the modem or still going through the router? power surges and outages are notorious for frying routers. most consumer routers seem to be especially more susceptible to power fluctuations than most other computer devices.

Ok I found out what kinda modem it is, its a RCA Digital Broadband. and to the latest reply..all I know is the person from linksys had my brother take the blue ethernet cord that was going into the desktop, and plugged it into his laptop. He doesnt have the desktop anymore.

Oh I'm sorry. I forgot what powercycle is, but is that when you unplug the cable from the back of the modem for like 30 seconds then plug it back in? cause if so my brother did that. And I'm not sure how to get my signals, but the model of my modem is a RCA Digital Broadband.

Ok I followed the link in your post and I believe I found out the signal levels. At first when I went too »192.168.100.1/moreInfo.html it said Disabled Not Allow Access, so then I clicked Basic at the top and it brought me to Basic Status - LAN and here is what I got. I'm just gonna take a screenshot cause I think it's gonna come out funny when I post it.

Your Downstream Power Level and your SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) figures are borderline in spec, but they may be fluctuating to levels that are out of spec intermittently which could indeed cause connectivity issues.
