Once companies get to this point...

Once companies get to this point, it's almost over for them. I have seen a number of department and grocery stores do the same thing (sell their store real estate and then lease it back)-and within a year or two they were gone!

That's not true at all, it's easier and cheaper to lease the tower space than to own it, they get rid of paying the taxes and doing all of the upkeep on the tower and surrounding area. All they have to do now is pay a fee every month with no other worries.

I agree. This is just a move to lower cost. Maintaining a tower is expensive and the new owner will just lease the tower space to all of the carriers. Ever drive up to a tower? You will see all, or most of the carriers all right there on the same tower. I hear all this crap about coverage yet in reality most of the time all of the major carriers are on the same towers.

Really, drive up and take a peek. Cannot go over the fence but look at all the labels. You will see all the major carriers all right there. Amazing, huh? That is how the tower company makes their money. Sprint is doing itself a favor because they will actually not have to pay for the upkeep, among other things. They will also gain access to more towers (why would Verizon lease tower space from Sprint?).

Yeah, look at VZW, TM and AT&T.. THey sold off towers long ago, guess it's just a matter of time before they close up shop too.
