If anything, newly uploaded videos if your connection is detected to be fast enough will be played in higher quality. It does for me on my 768k/128k Verizon DSL line without stopping or anything, and the resolution is a lot better and there's Stereo sound. If that doesn't work, just update flash and try the &fmt=18 trick. YouTube did indeed say that they are improving quality, and since their servers are running very fast now (can max a 3Mbps connection for what I know), they could surely handle a bit more load by turning up the quality even more.
EDIT: By the way, YouTube/Google started turning up the video quality starting shortly after the 2008 year started, so any video from January 2008 up to now should have high quality options if the user uploaded a video file with a decent video bitrate. |
