Thanks for the replies guys.

1. During the 2 minutes (maybe 1.5) after booting, ipconfig gives me the correct information. Pinging a website works as well.

2. Only AV/Firewall installed is Windows' firewall. Disabled/Enabled did not make a difference.

3. Am using an old Alactel?? DSL modem & a Linksys wired router. Tried setting the static IP, but could not even connect to the internet after the change. I used 10.10.1.XXX, but even inputting that instead of 192.168.1.XXX yielded no connection.

I am at a loss at what is causing this stall.

Does the same problem exist if you restart the computer in "Safe Mode with Networking"?

Try without using the router, but set a static IP on the NIC.
