Periodic disconnections

Hello Everyone,

I've recetly had a problem with my wireless connection. I am using wireless to connect to a router on my laptop, it works fine for around 3 hours, (varies a lot) and my network connection terminates. When this happens the network sometimes appears, connects for couple of seconds, and disconnects again... this does not stop and practically can't do anything on the internet.

The only way i find to fix this is to restart the router... and the whole proccess repeats itself. However, this is unbelievably frustrating since my parents on their computers (who are connected with a cable, and don't have this problem) can't keep switching on and off, and makes it merely impossible for me to download large files.

Can anybody find a way for me to fix this? I've done some research, and haven't found
anything. Here's some stats that might help;

Router: Belkin 54g

Adapter (on my laptop): Atheros AR5007EG Wireless Network Adapter

Laptop type: TOSHIBA SATELLITE P200 LAPTOPS

Windows: Windows VistaTM Home Premium

Connection Signal: Always high - other networks are around me, which i do not connect to.

Also, i do not know if relevant, but when i tried downloading this file once, from one website which let me download it faster made me create this scenario faster then another website, which downloaded the file slower (never downloaded the file tho )

All help would be fantastic, thanks

I'd start by checking with Atheros for any known problems with that WiFi adapter. See if any driver updates are available.

Then, check the computer carefully, and see what WiFi client programs are running - make there's only one. WiFi clients can conflict, and cause your problems. Atheros, Microsoft, possibly Toshiba may all provide WiFi clients.

Read my anecdote. Multiple clients, depending upon what components are running, will cause absolutely intermittent problems. Sometimes hours will go by between problems, other times a few minutes.

That's where you use Autoruns and Process Explorer (NOT MSConfig and Task Manager!).

Did you read my anecdote about my personal experience with the problem? I spent several days digging out bits of duplicate driver / client program, using Autoruns and Process Explorer. I didn't write fiction there.

By my clock, you reported this at 6:45 PDT, and it's just 11:45 PDT. Unless you are (or know) Superman, you may need to spend some time diagnosing the problem. Unless another helper pops up here with another suggestion.

You did check the obvious - do hardware testing? Your problem report is a bit scanty.
I've done some research, and haven't found anything.

Maybe look at the details more closely.
