Re: On my 7th DVR, any tricks to getting a good one?

if your on your 8th box you have a signal problem and i dont care what the techs said. they dont just move boxes from one house to the next. all the boxes go back to the warehouse and is tested before it goes back out. sure some bad ones might get thru but i doubt 8 will. you dont know its a bad sector on the hard drive. could just as easy be the signal the hard drive is recieving.

So they've given you the solution and you don't want to do it. That's fine, but then stop complaining. And it's not costing Comcast money to some to your house. It is costing all the subscribers including you and I. Thanks a bunch. As I said, I've always gone to an office, and I've always gotten a brand new box with no problems. If the neighborood was really that bad, Comcast wouldn't have an office there due to risk of burglary and robbery.

Every time I get sick of not being able to watch a recorded program, which is now. Because the screen will go blank and the box will lock up as it tries to deal with the bad sector on the hard drive. I have to alternate between stop and play several times before the box will move beyond the bad track and I can watch for a few more minutes before it happens again. I have to rearrange my schedule to make time to meet the Comcast tech at my home. When I call to schedule the appointment. The voice on the phone always recommends that I return the box myself to a "local" Comcast office. Except my "local" office does not deal with swapping equipment. They only want checks. The nearest office that accepts equipment is miles away in a bad neighborhood.

Besides, I get a wee bit of satisfaction knowing it costs Comcast money to send a tech to my house.

This is why I left Comcast......I went through 5 boxes in a course of two weeks and they couldn't give me a good one....not worth the hassle. If the service was free maybe. I switched to DirecTV...more HD anyhow and more channels for the money you pay.

ask and make sure the dvr has hdmi. earlier generations of the dvr didn't so it greatens the chance of it being newer. the mot. dch3416 is the newest model my area gives out so search for an image and try to ask for it.

I've always received a brand new box by going to one of the local offices, but I've probably been lucky.

Yes they check the levels with their fancy gizmo. It seems to me that the hard drives have bad sectors on them.

Your latest problem souns like a signal level issue going to the box. Has anyone checked the level?

Get yourself a TIVO!!! I'm still on my first TIVO for 5 years now and still working strong. It's worth the money.
And then you will miss the SDV channels, PPV, and on on demand.
Nah. Get a Tivo 2 and then a standard digital box from Comcast.

I am now on my 7th Motorola DVR and this one has issues also(Pixellation, Sound drops out sound tracks separate, Locks up with a "call CS" message). Does anyone have any advice on how to get a "good" box when they deliver my eighth DVR? One service tech, who had to try three different boxes on his truck before he found one that would boot up. He told us we should insist on a NEW box and request only a Comcast employee and not a contractor. That didn't work either because as soon as the last service tech left we noticed that the hard drive had someone Else's recordings on it. All they do is pull a bad box out of one house and install it in the next. This is maddening!
