I called to get the free DCT700, and after I hung up the phone I wondered: will it show up in the main for self-install, or should I have scheduled an install? I don't "do" Set Top Boxes, so I've never been there -- how does it work? |

| reply to jmr50 Still have yet to be able to order mine. Before I was told that they can't put the order through because I have CableCards and now I'm told that they can't even look up my account because I don't have a Verizon phone number. God I hate dealing with this company. |

I don't "do" Set Top Boxes, so I've never been there -- how does it work? Technically, the DCT700's are intended to be installed on TV sets with an existing Fios Analog connection, so you would just remove the coax from the existing TV, connect it to the DCT700, then use the included coax that comes with the DCT700 to connect it back to your TV set.
A simple installation brochure is sent in the box with the DCT700.
If you can unscrew a coax connector, you can install a DCT700 'Digital Adapter'.
The instructions for activating the new digital adapter are included in the installation brochure, and the Online Activation code is on the shipping invoice that comes with the DCT700.
Just be sure to connect everything properly, according to every step in the installation brochure, BEFORE attempting activation.
Installing new coax runs to additional TV's however, will cost you an install fee for an additional outlet from Verizon, unless you can do it yourself, or pay an Electrician or Home Theater Technician to do the work for you.
If you don't "DO" set top boxes, it's best left to the pros if the coax isn't already installed. -- "Lithium is no longer available on credit" |

| reply to nh5 said by nh5 :is this DCT700 for the digital switch or something else? The DCT700 is a type of set top box. However, because it's not IP enabled, when used with FiOS, you can't receive guide data or VOD with one of these boxes. Although you can receive all of your SD channels. |

| reply to jmr50 Ditto, what everyone else has already said.
I recently received and installed 3 DCT700's as part of the digital conversion. Each included easy to follow instructions. No tools required, unless a gorilla tightened the coax connector and you can't break them loose. The instructions tell you how to activate the boxes either by going to the VZ website or by calling a phone number.
Mine are up and running. I like the idea that without the DCT700's those 3 TVs only received the free channels (2-49). Now, they receive all the same channels that I subscribe to and receive on the TVs with the 2500 STBs I pay for every month. Its sorta like getting something for nothing. |

| Knowing how screwed up VZ billing is, I am wondering the same thing. Since I just installed my DCT700's, I haven't seen my first bill yet, but I won't be surprised if the same thing happens to me.
I'll be watching. |

They installed easily and work fine but I'm seeing them on my bill for the second month now at $3.99per Ok radio Bob - You have a specific task at hand ahead of you and I had the same thing happen. The "go digital" toll free number that was included in the letter that came from Verizon is the only way to order these boxes otherwise the 3.99 charge appears on your bill. I had the same thing happen to me in March and only last month had it fixed. You have to call back to that toll free number and have them write an order to include the promotional code on your account against all of the adapters you got through them.
No amount of calls to anyone else in Verizon will get this taken off your bill, trust me I lived through it. --

The number to call is: 1-888 505-3512
Be sure you get the name and the order number that they write for you because that order number WILL work with the rest of Verizon if you ever need to reference it. Hope it works for you. --

| reply to jmr50 I have had 3 "free" adapters since April 08. This month is the first time a charge is showing up. I called them on July 21st and asked what happened. The CSR told me to deduct the extra charges and she would put a note on my account. She told me that there should have been a note on my account that it was part of the promo. As of today, when I checked my account online, it still shows the full amount. I guess I will be calling them again tomorrow. |

| Don't believe that "I'll put a note on your account" nonsense. I fell for it until I threatened to call the PSC and made it quite clear that I would be naming the rep that I was speaking to as the person who was unwilling to assist me.
Sad that a former employee has to do this but it is the only thing that works.
Call the number listed in my post above and ask them why the charge is showing up on your bill now. --
